i've been to over a dozen resorts from Colorado to California to New Hampshire. Vail was the biggest let-down. Lots and lots of terrain, but their was nothing extreme or noteworthy and the crowds were just ridiculous with cars for miles up and down the frontage roads. the pricing was too high and there are far too many denverites.
Vail village is cute, but it's all phony. it's not a town. there are no locals -they live 20 miles down valley. it's a collection of boutiques piled on the shoulder of Hwy 70. if you're traveling from half way across the country, find a world-wide resort that focuses on overnight visitors.
