Have been skiing Killington since 1972! Have watched it grow, develop and change. The ratings at right are comparing Killington to other "large" eastern US ski resorts, not to resorts out west or smaller, cozier or little-kid friendlier smaller ski areas. It's a big resort for the east, very complete, with widely diverse terrain, decent glade skiing, well-run park area(s) for boarder cross, amazing half-pipe, and great groomers, bump runs, and kid-friendly terrain. etc. Killington does have UNQUESTIONABLY the best teaching terrain for 'never-evers'! Neophytes still 'get lost' and it's kinda cool watching folks endlessly looking at the trail map to see where they are on the mountain (for them, something of an adventure!). Now Powdr Corp owns it and some of the changes are better, some are worse. If air fare hurts you in going out west, then take the drive and stay here for four or five days, and you will be entertained in so far as skiing goes (unless weather's been horrible). Finally, Killington does has the east coast's BEST nightlife, rivalling many western ski resorts' nightlife.

BETTER: Base lodges and trails are less busy; some upgrades to property, grooming very good, snowmaking was pretty good this year. New upgraded Skye Peak Express Quad welcomed and excellent! Mother nature was cooperative a bit, also. Access Road nightlife, still good, but definitely less busy than late 70's - mid 90's. It was quieter, overall at the resort, and everyone (that is, regulars) seem to agree on this. Weakened dollar brought more europeans, especially Brits, and they're a pleasant bunch of folks. New road signage well done. Co-marketed events (Chevy Half-Pipe, etc.) were well-done and improved resort experience. (Killington was famous for NEVER having such events years back). The quietness seemed kind of nice in a way; you can actually get a seat at lunchtime!

WORSE: Shortened season, many lifts closed midweek, some lifts a little too readily or prematurely closed "due to weather" (we felt excuses were lame at the time), mogul challenge was DEAD due to new "restrictive" on-slope policies. Horribly overpriced kids programs, still inflexible & VERY EXPENSIVE pricing on ski school; still a few overpriced lodgings with 5-star prices and 2-3 star accommodations.

OTHER: S-P land development on hold; Ten-year-old (Pico) "interconnect" STILL on hold and NO reasonable chance of seeing that happen anytime soon.

I've been to more than forty other ski resorts in my lifetime. Killington still delivers; its diversity for an eastern resort is excellent, and they DO want to improve their overall image. However, the noticeable belt-tightening is not appreciated especially if one pays $75 for a lift ticket. (Rated 2 on family-friendly due to exhorbitant pricing on kids programs. If you have lots of little kids, such as toddlers, 3-8 year olds, you might want to consider a smaller, cozier resort or ski area). Teenaged kids like Killington, and so do many adults.

Have been going to Killington since 1996 and have loved it!! We usually take a 2-week vacation there each winter and stay in one of the Killington Condominiums at Fall Line. Called to make reservations this year and found that there were a lot of changes - our accommodations were priced $700 higher than last year and no one could tell me why! I asked if there had been improvements to the unit - we always select the same one each year - as I didn't mind paying if there had been some improvements, but no one could answer that question. The lift tickets were higher and the discounted multi-day tickets we usually got each year were not available like in previous years.

We started reading the reviews and checking the trail/lift report each day and found that we were going to be limited to certain parts of the mountain, certain lifts, fewer services and higher prices, not to mention the higher price of gas, which isn't the new owner's fault, but it all added up for us as we travel over 500 miles to get to Killington.

Guess what? We didn't go!! Sure we missed the Killington resort that we once favored, we missed our favorite dining places such as the Wobbly Barn, Outback Pizza and Lookout Tavern and we missed the cozy condo at Fall Line, but we are smart enough not to be taken for a ride!

I would encourage all the businesses and condo owners at Killington to use their clout to have the new owner return the resort to the amazing and friendly place it once was or else everyone will suffer.

This used to be a truly great skier's mountain before they carved it into high traffic boulevards. It seems to get sadder every year. Not worth my drive south!

People warned me about the rude Yankees fan types at Killington... and they were exactly right. There are no lift lines... its more like one big race to the chairs. Then its one big race down the mountain as people pass you dangerously no matter how fast youre going. Other resorts have signs like "ski fast, lose pass" or "skiers ahead of you have right of way," but thats all out the window here. I even saw kids speeding down the mountain and then grinding the lunch tables by the lodge entrance... I havent seen this kind of rude, dangerous behavior at any other mountain. As overcrowded as it is, people will definitely get hurt. One good thing is waffle vendors at every lift... the waffles are delicious.

LONG LONG LINES!!! Customer Service is unhelpful and lacks typical VT hospitality. The mountain is big with a lot of beginner to intermediate snow seekers. Unfortunately, the night life at Killington is the best part. Good clubs, bars, and restaurants are everywhere here.--SKI HOSS--

Ok Killington new management,

What are you thinking? You are taking a great mountain and killing it!

I have been skiing at Killington since 1972 approx. 36 years the way I see it. I have seen things change a lot. But no matter what Killington was always a wicked mountain if you were a skier. You could always find the real deal. I held a six mountain pass for as long as it was offered and if you check your records (I was scanned enough) you will find that I used it which means that I also used the local off mountain venues as well. I.e. dinners, drinks and on and on...

After the sale and changes last year and the way we were all treated this year with tickets, passes, hotel accom., and the attitude of all of the staff on and off the mountain IT'S OVER. SORRY. Until you say you are sorry anyway. Or maybe we screwed up. Or maybe we thought...... (you were all stupid) I thought you ran Park City? Oh ya that is why I always went to Snow Bird, ALTA, Bighten and Solitude.

You should re-think your policies. We are New Englanders. We are loyal and will stick with you for ever if you take care of us. I know that you are pushing big time in Europe and it is working but in the process you are loosing all of us - the people that have kept you in business. By the way, our group owns at one of the base resorts - this year we skied at Okemo and just stayed at the condo. We also skied Cannon, Breton woods, and others but Killington - one long weekend was enough - sorry you guys suck.

Terrain gets skied off a lot due to high crowds. Thus, even some green circle terrain gets quite bumpy by the end of the day. A portion of the mountain gets closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays so the new owners spend less money (which is some of Skye Peak and Pico). Also, they have an insufficient amount of lifts running. They actually only run one of their high speed quads (Needle's Eye Express) only on Saturdays. I went there on a Sunday and the line for the gondola that is next to it was very ridiculously long, while that lift had no problem operating the day before. I only went here because I got a good deal that on a trip that was subsidized by my group. Otherwise, a 2 day 1 night package for 2 adults skiing midweek is $370 for the cheapest price available altogether. That is purely ridiculous; with that I can do many other resorts at around $240.

I have been going to Killington since the early 80s, and I plan never to go there again. I can't believe that anyone would give this resort any rating above a 1. The new owners have ruined the ski on ski off feature that was always a big attraction to us. Their grooming is just plain awful. They charge a premium price for lift tickets, and give cut-rate services. I don't think that I have ever been more disappointed in a ski resort as I am in Killington. I am not alone either. A great majority of people we spoke to felt the same way. The only up side is that when Powder gets done running Killington into the ground, they will sell it to a company that knows how to run a resort. I also think that the state of Vermont should rethink their ideas on limiting any benefits to Vermont resorts while taxing them into bankruptcy.

Killington mountain has decent terrain and snow. I used to be a frequent skier at Killington, but now I just don't have a good experience there anymore. The crowds are more out of control than ever. The trails are usually conjested and skied off.

The new owners are very buisness like. Price gauging is rampant. They have really cut down on the quality of the service. Lift service and snow making have been reduced to save money. The resort is very dependant on snow making system because the natural snow is average at best. For the high price of a lift ticket you expect more from a ski resort. There are better ski resorts for less money in New England.

My skis were tuned poorly the first day there and I had to stick to green and easy blues for the day until I could get back and dull my tips. So, it really made me more in tune with beginners. If you are a beginner, be carefeul because the ttrail system is terrible. they are so poorly marked. I made many a turn and not knew where I was because the trails were not marked properly if at all. Once, I picked a trail because it looked gentle but did not know where I was. I looked back, and saw that you could see you were on sky larke but not until you were at a point of no return and you had to look backwards to see where you were at if you just got off the lift. It was ok if you were coming off another connecting trail. I ended up on dreamweaver which is a black diamond without knowing it until again, too late, and had to side slip the whole way down. I left after a few hours. Later at Pico, ran into another family on the quad who had the same exact complaint. I could see being worried if I was there with my family and kids and my kids were just starting. Trails themselves were icepans even on the greens. Great northern had one spot where people kept falling over each other as they got on the trail because it was complete ice and you couldn't even dig your pole in to help yourself up. It was 34 and Sunny for three days after an ice storm on Saturday. Conditions should have been better. they close at four, so you would think they have enough time to groom the trouble spots. Pico or Okemo all the way. Only good part of Killington is no lift lines (but, it was mid week).
