Been to St Gervais four times now with a middle age group of rugby lads, this place is a little gem if you are going out of the school holidays you can find you have a piste to yourself. Its a vast ski area with tree lined runs if there is flat light and lots of restaurants on the slopes. The town is only small with a few quite bars and restaurants but the oboose bar at the foot of the main gondolier back to town is a good place if you want a good drink even have a band on from time to time.
Excellent area to ski and very picturesque.
Not that lively of a night if thats what you want

This year will be our third family trip to St Gervais. We've been elsewhere but keep coming back, lots of accessible skiing, nice cafes, restaurants and patisseries in the village. The ski school gets a bit too busy/overstretched during February holidays, and it's not the cheapest resort, but the views to Mont Blanc are sensational and the whole vibe is friendly and very much a French resort, which we like.

January 2018 will be our 5th visit in a row. Stayed at Le Fayet 3 times. Stayed at Hotel Fleche d'Or at Le Bettex in 2017. Best hotel in France! Superb food. Immaculate accommodation. Ski in ski out means we get 1 hour at the start and end of each day. No faffing about to get up from Le Fayet, nor rushing back to get the last lift down. Highly recommend the ski area which includes Megeve and Combloux. I've given 1 star for night life only because we stay in the hotel. We go to ski not to drink! There's nowhere to go at Le Bettex when the lifts shut. If you prefer a bit of night life then best stay in St Gervais, not in Le Fayet which is dire! Enjoy.

I came across this ski area by accident - would definitely return. I chose to stay in Le Fayet near the railway station. so I could explore the Skiing area of St Gervais / Megeve. Le Fayet trains station is about 10/15 min bus journey from the St Gervais town and Ski lift. le Fayet is reasonably well connected to St Gervais by a free minibus service, mini tram and regular bus service. (minibus are always free, regular bus service you have to pay) I hired all my ski equipment from one of the shops at Le Bettex (top of the cable car) and also a locker so that I didn't need to bring everything back to Le Fayet. If I missed a bus after skiing I used the time to go for a coffee or beer in St Gervais. The best places to shop for food were casino and carrefore which were both in st Gervais. Lots of really nice bars and coffee shops to explore too. St Gervais minibus are all free - you hop on / off at different stops around the town. Le Fayet is much quieter place to stay. There are a handful of restaurants and coffee shops - but enough for a few days stay. In Le Fayet There is a tram/railway that takes you up the mountain to the Les Houches Ski area with amazing views of Mt Blanc ( buy tickets from behind the post office ) there is also a market in Le Fayet on a Wednesday outside the Train Station and on a Thursday in St Gervais town. This is a good place to stay if you want to explore the St Gervais - Mont Blanc area in Summer or Winter. Here are the bus times I used in 2017.... Free minibus to cable car (catch outside the post office) Up 915am, Down 4pm Pay bus (€1.50) up to cable car ( catch from train station) 825,1010,1710,1805,1910 Pay bus down from st gervais ( catch at cable car or a couple min later at the st gervais end of the big bridge) 1533,1613, 1715, 1623, 1925, 2023 Old fashioned Tram up st Gervais (€ 6) 9, 11, 1310, 1510.

I went here in the middle of March with three mates and we were blessed with fantastic weather which enabled me to get so cracking photos of the spectacular views, especially from the top of Mt Joux. Don't worry about the altitude, there was enough snow in in a warm mid March. The advantage was that in the town there was no snow at all, so getting about is easy, we only hit the snow at the top of the cable car run to the bottom of Bettix. From here you get another gondola to Mt Arbois area from where you can go pretty much anywhere you want. The choice of places to ski is staggering as is the view from here across the valley to the runs on the mountains the other side. You can get food and drink all over the mountains but it is a bit expensive (five euros for a small gatorade!). As far as skiing and snowboarding goes, it is a great resort, you can literally cover dozens of miles in a day at various parts of various difficulties. I would totally recommend this place for it skiing. It's only just over an hour from Geneva airport too, which is very good, a lot of resorts have massive transfer times. They even run a free bus service through the town to take you to the bottom of the cable car run (Telecabine'), St Gervais is a beautiful town, very quite and very clean. The people were very friendly as well. The only down side is the lack of places to eat and drink. This is not a place for youngster looking to go out on the lash and on the pull in the evenings!! Eateries are very limited. There was a nice shop called The Casino to get your provisions if you are self catering like we were so because of this it would get four stars from me overall but as a skiing resort I would give it five stars. We all had a wonderful time and would not hesitate in recommending this to anyone no matter what level of skier you are. Also as you are taken to the snow the resort is a fair bit warmer than many other would be. We had temperatures regularly well into double figures. They do have places to stay on the mountains as well if you are one of those that must ski to your front door! Overall as I said, a fantastic place to go and it didn't cost that much either.
Fabulous choice of runs, magnificent views
next to no nightlife or places to eat

I agree with the other Reviews here. We found St Gervais by luck really, but what a find. It is just about perfect for families and beginner to very good intermediate skiers. We went to Morzine Les Gets and Avoriaz area at Christmas 2010 with friends but are heading back to St Gervais at half term 2011. Morzine is ok if you like crowded lifts and if you are an advanced skier it has more to do. But for everyone else it's just expensive and crowded like so many of the more fashionable and well known resorts. Our group has a mixture of very advanced (former ski instructor), mid teens skiing reds and blacks in and out of the trees with their hair on fire and a couple of intermediates that like pootling down blues and drinking Vin Chaud. But it was good when the teens were beginners as well. St Gervais or should I say St Gervais St Nicolas, Megeve and Rochebrune which you access from St Gervais on the Mont Blanc Evasion ski pass keeps us all happy all day and all week. We are heading back for our fourth year and we love it. If however you are more into apres ski than skiing it's not that sort of place. It has nice bars and restaurants but there is no club scene or for that matter drunk people eating slices of pizza in amongst piles of litter and smoking waccy baccy on the streets. And consequently they aren't on the St Gervais slopes either. So the "drawback" of not having a wild apres ski scene is actually a benefit if you are taking your family and want lots of good skiing for all and an excellent ski school set up without the crowds, the expense and the aggro of somewhere like Morzine.
Fantastic Family resort
None for families

Like all the other reviews we love St Gervais. Great runs to Le Bettex, so your party can ski different runs but all meet at Le Bettex. Some good places to eat on a night in the town. We will be going back. This is one of France's best kept secrets, should keep it quiet really !!
No waiting at chair lifts, even at peak times !!
Very little apres ski. Not for clubbers !! Euro excange rate
We've been to St Gervais three times now and are going back again in February. We've also skied in Les Arcs. The ESF ski school accommodates all levels and we've found the teaching effective and good fun too. My daughter was only four when we first went and loved the Jardin de Neige and the well supervised kindergarten. I'm a nervous skier, so love the never-ending green run Chateluy and treat myself to a hot chocolate on "Freddie" and take in the amazing views whilst my more daring family find the reds. You don't even have to ski there - the Gondola lift will take you. St Gervais is a lovely village with plenty of restaurants for all tastes and pockets - but your won't find many (or any) night clubs. You have to try Reblochon - a big round of cheese you melt at the table. I would recommend staying in St Gervais itself - although there isn't snow there - it's within walking distance of the restaurants and ski lifts - otherwise you'll be using your car a lot. The snow begins proper in Bettex - 5 minutes away. We enjoy skiing down into Megeve - the village is worth visiting too. Your Evasion ski pass gives you enormous freedom and in 3 years, we haven't exhausted all the possiblilites. Contamines has a few good runs - a tricky blue and a good red. This year we intend to try St Nicholas. Further afield is the Mont Blanc tunnel with easy access to Italy. The Tramway de Mont Blanc departs from St Gervais too. There's the famous St Gervais spa nearby and big supermarkets at the bottom of the mountain in Le Fayet. However, you can get everything you need in St Gervais and a bit more besides. It's like Christmas everyday!
Great for families and beginners
Not for clubbers!
I have skied four times in St-Gervais and have found the experience thrilling. I had ski lesson last Christmas 2007 and found the lessons very informative and the instructor was charming and very patient which has helped develop my technique. The spa town is charming and the local shop keepers are helpful. The restaurants I have frequented are a above average standard. Food was stunning. Local firework display on new years eve was well presented. I am returning for a further week in March. The local spa town is unspoilt and new buildings are being sensitively built.
