Karpacz is a touristic resort located at the foot of Śnieżka in Karkonosze (Giant Mountains) on the height of 480 to 886 m.a.s.l. Administratively Karpacz belongs to Jelenia Góra County, located in the south-west part of Lower Silesia. Karpacz commune (gmina) boarders Czech Republic. The population of the town is about 5000 people, and at the top of season the number of tourists is several times higher. The accommodation base is very rich in Karpacz. You can find there almost 10 000 places to sleep with the diverse price offer (hostels, guesthouses, households, hotels, Spa&Welness centers). Skiers will find here a lot of attractions. In Karpacz there are a lot of smaller slopes and lifts and in the neighborhood there is a big ski&snowboard complex Śnieżka. Not far from the routes you can find equipment rentals, ski-schools and snowboard-schools. In Karpacz for there is cross-country route which has FIS approval and is 2,5 km long. Good conditions for skiers in Karpacz are usually from December till the middle of March. Some of the slopes are artificially snowed and illuminated. Apart from skiing, you can find a lot of other attractions, among others ice rinks, track luge, Museum of Sport and Tourism and also ski jump “Orlinek”, where all-Polish contest takes place. You can get to Karpacz with the car from Jelenia Góra (about 15 km) or from Wrocław trough Wałbrzych and Kowary. People who want to use public transportation can get to Karpacz by bus PKS. There is no train leading directly to Karpacz. You can go by train to Jelenia Góra, and then by bus PKS to Karpacz. Those who travel from Wrocław can take direct bus Wrocław-Karpacz.
