Well worth going to the top if you are a keen skier and happen to be in the area. But they could make it much simpler for everybody... 1) Parking information is non-existent. You can drive up to the departure area but cannot park there and nearest parking is about 20mins walk. We took taxi from hotel which if you stay in Zakopane was about same price as price of parking. With ski gear, forget about the 20mins walk ! 2) Even their website is not clear about opening time... says 9am-4pm when we actually went up at 8:40am and local taxi drivers were telling us you can go up from 8am 3) Then there are 2 queues. One for those with tickets and one for those who need to buy one. Those needing to buy tickets can go straight to the departure turnstiles after the purchase. Those with pre-booked tickets were left waiting and I have no idea at what rates they were being let in to the turnstiles. But the 3 times we came back down, the pre-booked line didn’t seem to move much 4) if you just want to go skiing then just buy a skipass. We bought our tickets for the cable car in advance only to be told when we bought our skipass at the selling desk that one ride up on the cable car is included with ski pass. Obviously if you want to ski all the way back down and go up again then you will need to buy another cable car ride. 5) There are only 2 chair lifts at the top. One for a short black run that starts straight at the top of the cable car arrival area, one for a red run that becomes a blue/green through the forest and takes you all the way to the bottom. BEWARE: if you start with the red run, the only way to get back to the start of the black run is either a very steep walk up to the top of the mountain or a long walk (upward) around it... I could not believe they didn’t think of having the 2 chairlifts arriving at the same location. Only other way to get from the red to the black is to go all the way down and catch the cable car again. We tried that but gave up when we saw a 2/3h queue ! So unless you get back to the bottom before 9:30am then forget it. In conclusion: probably the best ski run in the area so I would absolutely go there if you are a good skier. Go there at 8am to get a chance to do the long red/blue slope all the way down then go back up to do the black runs. When you had enough of the black then you can go around the mountain again to do the red a couple of times then ski all the way back to Zakopane through the forest.
Not overly busy

We went as absolute beginners in March 2016. We only did two areas but the best by far was Bialka Tatrazanska which was a nice little series of valleys which had decent snow making facilities. Our guides at Whiteside holidays were excellent, the price was pretty much unbeatable and if you want cheap food and drink for your après this is the place! Nightlife was lively too. It snowed while we were there but there wasn't much cover on the hills. If I went again I'd want to check Kasporwy Wierch which sounds like the best area for intermediates and up. For non skiiers/boarders there are some good spa/baths and some quaint markets. Its cheap for shopping too and not far from Krakow if you want to do the city thing (about 1.5 hrs).
cheap, nice town, good apres, decent snowmaking
might be limited for advanced
Spent two nights in Zakopane about a month ago with my dad and thoroughly enjoyed the experience overall. Unfortunately the Tatra Mountains are having a poor snow season and this prevented many of the runs at Kasprowy Wierch from being open. This was definitely the best of the 4 Zakopane mountains. Steep slopes and bowl skiing but as I mentioned before, the snow cover was poor. There is a great off-piste run into the bowl that requires a walk of a few hundred meters to get to. In the afternoon it got particularly icy and there were a lot of novices on the slopes but the town of Zakopane was fantastic and the skiing would be much better if the snow conditions were better.
Friendly service, Beautiful location, Cheap
Poor snow conditions, limited variety
I've been skiing in Zakopane, Poland with my family for the last 3 winters in a row. Each time we went with a company called Sunshine World and now we're really good friends with their instructors and even the managers as it's a small and personal company. We're even booking again this year with some of our friends! The town is really beautiful and it's so nice to be able to afford to go to nice restaurants IN a ski resort with a meal for the whole family costing under £40 every time. Sunshine World organise everything for us from when we land including all the skiing and snowboarding which makes all the difference. They have a website which you can book through at: www.sunshineworldpoland.com I'd recommend Zakopane to anyone looking to try skiing and snowboarding for the first time or looking to improve with some excellent and affordable instructional packages. Cheap, friendly service, surprisingly good quality, FUN!
Ski areas are not on one lift pass- but Sunshine World organises around it well
