Missouri Skiing: Two for the Snow

Skiing in Missouri means Peak Resorts. The state is the home base for the empire run by Tim Boyd, who has focused operations on the basics of chairlifts, snowmaking and grooming, much to the delight of skiers and riders. Peak Resorts owns both of the state's ski areas: Hidden Valley in Wildwood and Snow Creek in Weston.

Hidden Valley has a 320-foot vertical on 65 acres of terrain with full snowmaking coverage capable of laying down a foot of snow in 24 hours at 20 degrees. Trails are served nine lifts, including five chair lifts, 1 tow rope and 3 surface carpet lifts. There are two terrain parks. All-terrain is lit for night skiing every evening, and for midnight skiing on Fridays and Saturdays beginning in late December, weather permitting. Easy Street, the area's beginner area, has its own carpet. The Outlaw Terrain Park is reserved for expert skiers and riders.

Snow Creek has a 300-foot vertical served by 2 triple chairs, a double, 1 rope tow and 1 conveyor carpet. Skiable acreage is weighted toward intermediate ability and includes 2 terrain parks and a 700-foot snow tubing park served by a conveyor lift. Rattlesnake Park is a terrain park for experts only. The area's powerful snowmaking system can cover the entire terrain in as little as 72 hours as long as the temperatures stay below freezing. Snow Creek has a 10,000-square-foot lodge, ski school, rental shop and a Ski School Lesson Center with over 100 instructors.
