Snow Reporter Comments

**UPDATE** Patrol has opened up Hairball, Sphynx, Black Cat and Starr Line today, bringing our total trail count up to 47 with 219 acres of terrain and 15.2 miles of slope!

“Wow.” Anyone who was here yesterday probably uttered this syllable at least once, if not to someone else, then repeatedly to themselves. Winter Storm Juno threw 18 inches of fresh fluff onto our slopes and the skiing yesterday on both groomed and ungroomed trails was unbelievable. The wind definitely had an effect on a few places, especially on the upper mountain, but its effects in most places can only be described as positive. Drifting snow settled into waist deep powder that barely even slowed you down it was so soft! It was not a day to miss, but if you did happen to be stuck at work or in school, have no fear, for the snow isn’t going anywhere and we have more on the way Friday! Enough about snow and on to our deals! We are offering our Lift & Lunch deal today, which gets you a full-day lift ticket with an included $10 lunch credit for just $65. The storm has moved on, but the powder remains and it is yours for the taking!

Today, Thursday January 29, the Wildcat Express Quad, the Snowcat Triple, and the Snowbelt are scheduled to operate from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., giving you access to 43 open trails, 207.5 acres of terrain and 14.3 miles of slope. The Bobcat Triple will be running as well later in the day. Our grooming team smoothed out the new snow on 24 of our 43 open trails which will make for a beautiful packed powder corduroy surface. Ungroomed terrain is going to be variable with much of it being powder and some of it be firm where the wind took it. Make sure to test out the terrain before bombing in; stay alert and use caution out there. We’ve got a small terrain park with five elements set up on Wild Kitten along with a terrain based learning area on the Snowcat Slope. The skiing in the woods should be pretty epic today as the wind sent some of the new snow into the trees!

Today’s forecast is calling for a mostly sunny day with calm winds blowing. The high temperature for the day is 22 degrees, which compared to the past two chilly days will seem almost tropical! Looking forward, it looks like we’re going to get a few extra inches of fluff Friday into Saturday, so anyone reading this in their office, biting their fingernails and cursing the Snow Gods for the epic midweek powder day they had to miss will be rewarded for their patience with Friday’s consolation prize!

The Lion’s Den and Nursery will be open today, along with The Wildcat Pub, the Wildcat Sport Retail Shop, the Cafeteria and The Tune & Rental Shop. Tired of your skis and thinking about something new? You can call the Wildcat Rental Shop at ext. 221 to reserve yourself a pair of our High Performance Rossignol Ski Demos. Available pairs are the Soul 7 & Experience 88 for men; Saffron 7 & Temptation 88 for women. Our demo gear is always tuned and ready to go! I had a chance to try out a pair of the Soul 7s in the powder yesterday and they were something else. Serious rocker and surface area in the tip had me popping out of snow drifts while still staying over the front of the skis! The lean-it-back leg burning technique is a thing of the past with those powder boards.

Being first ones there paid off big time! Pow pow pow! All the non groomers were a party! Woo hoo! Groomers were hard and crusty, wind stripped.

Well this photo pretty much sums up the day... If you weren't here you missed out. Fresh pow everywhere. Still ice underneath in some areas including the glades but cut your own trail and you'll be in powder heaven. Get here tomorrow!
