More than 900 skiers and snowboarders took to the slopes in Cairngorm, Scotland today.

The ski area is reporting good snow conditions on the hill, although visibility is limted at times, and lifts and pistes are opening again Monday morning from 9 a.m.

Cairngorm's snow update Dec. 18

Cairngorm will be celebrating 50 years since the first lift - the White Lady chairlift - took skiers up the mountain on Dec. 23. It also marks 10 years since the funicular railway opened.

Visitors are invited to celebrate Cairngorm's anniversary by sampling the White Lady beer and funicular birthday cake. The ski area will be open on Christmas Eve, closed Christmas Day, then open again on Boxing Day.

Santa and his elves will be visiting Cairngorm Mountain this Christmas, Dec. 17, 18 and 24. Santa will be residing either at the Christmas shop at the top of the mountain or at the Ptarmigan Restaurant.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, there's also the chance to win a 2012-13 season pass. Cairngorm is running a photo competition for all aspiring young photographers. Short-listed entries will be featured in an exhibition of photogpraphic prints at Cairngorm.

Reminder: ski hire customers should note, you don't need to queue at the ticket office to pay for your equipment and lift ticket. You now head straight to Hire to collect equipment and lift ticket and pay for both in same building.
