Nevis Range opens a week later than planned

Nevis Range, Scotland opened for the season on Saturday, Dec. 17.

The opening came a week later than planned after gusts of 130mph caused extensive damage to equipment; almost every lift was blown off cables and 15 quad chairs were damanged beyond repair. 

Engineering staff at Nevis Range have been working "flat out" to replace or repair lifts. The ski area is reporting six  lifts are now up and running, including the gondola.

Most of Nevis's runs are now complete with good cover and you can easily ski back to below the top station and bottom of the quad chair.

Nevis Range will now be open 10 a.m to 4 p.m, seven days a week, weather permitting, but closed on Christmas Day. The new Pinemarten cafe-bar is now open too. Built during last winter, the building offers views over the Aonach Mor slopes.

Glencoe also received significant storm damage the previous week, but staff have been working "flat out" to repair lifts. All Scottish ski areas were open over the weekend with good snow conditions, but poor visibilty at times. Open lifts: Glencoe 5 out of 7; Glenshee 17/21; Nevis Range 6/11; Cairngorm 9/11; and The Lecht 10/13.
