Untouched swaths of waist-deep powder. Secluded forests filled with epic pillow lines. The thumping sound of a helicopter's blades that pulses adrenaline through your veins. For skiers and snowboarders, these are the things that dreams are made of.

Don't let these things exist only in dreams another year. This is the year you need to make a snowcat or helicopter-access trip a reality.

However, it can be tricky to navigate the variety of cat and heli options availabe to you. The style of operations ranges from plush, all-inclusive lodges to pay-per-run heli drops. There are too many worthy operators to fit into any story, so we used our own years of experience and surveyed the some top ski and snowboard writers, photographers and athletes to assemble a list of our favorites that spans regions and types of operators.

So take a few minutes, or a few hours, and start planning where you're going to turn your backcountry dream into the trip of your lifetime this winter.
