Navionics, an international company that provides a wide array of navigational software for boating, has expanded into the world of snowsports. Mobile Ski for iPhone is an app that lets skiers and riders access information about resorts, and track their day on the slopes.

The company's promotional pitch promises skiers and riders all the information they need for a day on the snow. The app locates ticket offices, lodges, lifts, ski schools, favorite slopes, and more in Navionics 2D map or 3D satellite modes. Select a playlist from within the app for iTunes. At the end of the day, review stats and share runs and photos via e-mail, Facebook, and Twitter.

Mobile Ski lets skiers and riders save up to 200 favorite trails, vistas, rest stops, meeting places, and other points of interest; track runs and then play them back; view statistics including run duration, length, max speed, average speed, and vertical descent; search a wide list of points-of-interest and click-and-call to connect with the nearest ticket office, ski rental, and first aid; and select a ski trail or lift and see it highlighted on the map.

Once ski resorts are downloaded they remain resident on your phone which means skiers and riders don't have to be in cell range to use the app.

Buy the application for $4.99, then download ski areas at no additional cost.

Navionics is worldwide, with U.S. headquarters in Wareham, Mass.
