Bridger Bowl is pulling together plans to revamp its lift layout this summer to the tune of $3 million. Plans are underway for installing a new Doppelmayr C-TECH Triple Chairlift that will replace two aging Riblet lifts at the resort. The new lift will take the place of the current Bridger Lift installed in 1964 and the Deer Park Lift originally installed in 1971.
The new lift can carry 1,800 skiers per hour and will provide more uphill vertical transport than the current Bridger and Deer Park double chair lifts combined. The new lift, which will include a mid-way unloading ramp at the base of Bronco Face, will be able to run in higher crosswinds than the older chairs that shut down with voracious south winds.
The new lift will run from the top of the Virginia City Lift to the same location as the top of the current Bridger Lift. The new lift's unloading area will be expanded with a retaining wall, and a carpet at the base will improve loading.
Installation of the new lift will come with other slope improvements. The Deer Park switchback road will be removed via re-contouring, allowing three central mountain runs to plummet along fall lines without interruption. Bridger also plans to install additional snowmaking on three runs--Hanton's Hollow, Powder Horn, and Boot Hill-and skiers returning from the south side of the mountain will be able to take a short rope-tow to the new lift and Deer Park Chalet.
The new lift will help in opening the mountain in the morning by providing more consistent access for avalanche control. The mid-way unload station will also allow for early season skiing on the lower part of the lift before Bronco Face has enough snow coverage.
