Where . . . SnowDome, Tamworth, UK

What . . . The SnowDome offers a year-round real snow experience. Skiing and snowboarding sessions take place on its 180-metre main slope and at the two Snow Academy areas (separate 30-metre and 25-metre teaching slopes).

There are numerous lessons available at SnowDome, day courses, coaching sessions, and discounts available to all levels of skier and boarder. Kinder Lessons are for children aged between 4 and 7 and last 45 minutes every Saturday and Sunday morning. There's also a disability ski school starting October 2010.

No specialist equipment is required; just bring warm clothes and gloves. Skis, snowboards, snowblades, and boots are provided free of charge or you can bring your own. Protective headwear is also supplied, inclusive, for all skiers and boarders using the ramps or rails. Helmets are also compulsory for all snowboard lessons.

SnowDome is open 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. 364 days a year.

Non-Skiing Activities . . . A Children's snowplay area, an ice skating rink, the UK's only ice track, a huge gym, tobogganing nights, a swimming pool and luxury spa.

Food/Shops . . . There's a good selection of bars and restaurants in the centre. The mountain sports specialists, Ellis Brigham, is also located at the entrance to the SnowDome and his two floors full of clothing and equipment.

Prices . . . Adults £18-25 p/h; juniors £13-19 p/h. Discounts are available for family tickets and group bookings. Two-hour group lessons cost £55 per adult and 55-minute private lessons are £79.
