Parents who wonder how much their children learn during a group lesson may rest a bit easier if they put their loved ones into Park City's Signature 5 Program.
The ski school for ages six through 14 guarantees a maximum class size of five while accommodating abilities from rank novice to expert on both skis and snowboards. A day's lesson begins at 9 a.m. and runs to 3 p.m. A single price also covers a lift ticket and a lunch at one of Park City on-mountain restaurants.
Lessons focus on individual attention to accelerate learning and give youthful skiers and riders get a "well-balanced mountain education," according to the Park City Web site.
The cost of Signature 5 classes remains discounted until Dec. 10, with one day costing $163. During the holiday seasons of Dec. 18-Jan. 2 and Feb. 19-27, the cost rises to $230 a day. Regular season pricing sits at $215 per day. Reservations are encouraged.
Park City Mountain Resort also runs a limited freestyle skiing Signature 5 Program on selected dates throughout the season. Enrollees must be a blue-terrain skier or rider to participate. Instruction offers increased proficiency in jumps and tricks, as well as exposure to terrain park etiquette and safety. Coaches adapt each lesson to the abilities of each participant.
Freestyle instruction dates are Dec. 24-Jan. 1; Feb. 19-26; March 5-8, 12-15, 19-22, and 26-29; and April 2-5.
