Leisure Dome Limited hopes to create the UK's longest indoor ski slope in Weston-super-Mare.

Discussions with North Someset Council have been taking place and a planning application is expected to be submitted next year. The ski centre would be built on a former airfield and, as well as the longest indoor ski slopes in the country, it would also house an indoor ice rink, skateboard park, freefall centre gym, health spa, shops, and cafes.

Leisure Dome Limited director Clive Damilton-Davies told the Evening Post: "Extreme sports is a growing industry and one the South West must tap into. North Somerset has actively sought to assist us in delivering these exciting proposals in Weston-super-Mare."

Indoor ski centres are year-round, weather-reliable destinations. They are growing in popularity and complexity, with the larger centres now resembling full mountain resorts rather than just straight slopes.

All levels of skier and snowboarder visit indoor slopes: beginners gain confidence before a ski holiday while intermediates and advanced practise technique and training.

OnTheSnow has compiled an Indoor Ski Guide, listing real-snow centres in the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Belgium, Finland, and The Netherlands. Choose a centre depending on geography, slope size and suitability, lifts, lessons, freestyle parks, non-skiing activities or price.
