If it's luxury you want, look no farther than halfway up Empire Peak at Deer Valley Resort.
The uber-fancy Montage Deer Valley is slated to open in December with 154 guest rooms, and more than 66 suites and private residences ranging from one to four bedrooms, all with fireplaces and views of the Wasatch Mountains.
The new hotel sits at 8,300 feet in elevation, near the base of the Empire Express lift that runs to Empire Peak which, at 9,570 feet in elevation, is the highest point of the area.
Each accommodation features fireplaces, furnishings, local artwork, walk-in closets, stone baths with separate glass-wall showers and radiant heat floors, soaking tubs, private balconies or terraces, and lots of windows.
Pre-holiday rates begin at $845 a night (before taxes) for suites. Amenities include four dining venues, including Daley's Pub that is full of games from bowling to darts to video and nostalgic arcade games. Other options for diners are the farm-to-table Apex, the bistro-style Vista Lounge & Terrace, and the café Buzz Coffee & Tea.
The Laguna Beach-based Montage Group adds this on-the-mountain hotel to its ultra-luxurious properties in Laguna Beach and Beverly Hills in California, and Los Cabos in Mexico.
Deer Valley Resort rises above Park City, Utah, about 30 minutes drive from the Salt Lake City International Airport.
