With a façade of stone-clad buttresses, wood beams, and wood siding, the new village tram dock will enclose three sides in glass while leaving the fourth side open to face Rendezvous Mountain. Unlike the old tram, skiers and snowboarders will load from the uphill side with no roof over the entrance maze. Instead of two legs used on other tramways, cabins will suspend from the cable by a single hanger designed to reduce wind resistance, permitting the tram to operate in winds up to 75 m.p.h. With wider doors and a reduced planned capacity for backpack-toting customers, the cars will hold 100 passengers and an operator. "It's exciting as hell," said resort President Jerry Blann. "Nobody in our industry has been through this. This is the biggest, largest, the most money spent on a tram in North America."
