The Grand Targhee Randonnee Race is the second stop on the National Ski Mountaineering Race Series. The event is open to the general public even though it's part of the national race series. Competitors in the recreation division climb 3,200 feet up in elevation before skiing down. Those in the race division slog up 5,000 feet before giving in to gravity. Entrants may opt to use randonnee, telemark, or split snowboards.
"These courses cover some of the most challenging terrain at Grand Targhee with difficult descents," says the resort's Special Events Director, Andy Williams.
The event takes place Jan. 12-13. You can check out the route maps at grandtarghee.com.
