There's more to having fun in the snow than doing laps on your favorite ski lift. And on Jan. 6 you'll have the opportunity to do so. Tahoe Donner Cross-Country Center, Royal Gorge, Kirkwood Nordic, Hope Valley Outdoors and Bear Valley Cross Country are among the numerous North American locales taking part in the annual Winter Trails Day promotion. Winter Trails Day, now entering its 12th year, offers children and adults new to snow sports the chance to try snowshoeing and cross country skiing for free. Just show up, check out the gear and then head out into the woods.
