Hidden Valley is expanding its snowmaking system with 48 new TechnoAlpin M18 pole-mounted fan guns equipped with onboard weather stations, two portable fan guns, and water lines.

"We have the largest automated TechnoAlpin system in the United States," Hidden Valley's William Doring said. "We can just go on the computer and turn these guns on. Skiers and riders like the quality of snow, it's efficient to make, they work at higher temperatures, and electric consumption is less.

"Our guys love it. These guns have heated nozzles, so if you don't shut them off just right they don't have to go out with a blowtorch."

Doring said the 30 M18 TechnoAlpin guns in place last season allowed Hidden Valley to operate until April 13, tied for last in Pennsylvania.
