The small resort of Valtournenche, close to internationally famous Cervinia, is best known as having (unofficially) the second greatest vertical drop in the world, after Chamonix.  However making the descent involves using Zermatt's lifts, which are helpfully interconnected and all included on the one ‘International' pass.  Valtournenche gives you easy access  to the world's most famous ski resorts, and one of the world's biggest ski areas with some 400km (250 miles) of piste and skiing on both sides of the Swiss - Italian border.  You even can ride a six-seater chairlift across the border if you wish.

Valtournenche's accommodation providers, like most Italian resorts, offer ‘White Week' during which time everything from hotel to ski school is offered at a reduced rate. Package deals including meals, lift tickets, and even ski rentals can be arranged at this discounted rate.  White Weeks can operate all through the winter or just in low season.

A local area lift pass during White Weeks costs €136 for six days or €150 for seven days, and adult group ski lessons for 2.45 hours daily for five days except Saturdays and Sundays cost €135, with a minimum group size of five people.

The three-star Hotels Bijou or Punta Margherita are €320 per person on half board at the start or end of the season.  The Touris, another three-star hotel, is €300 for the week at the start of the season (before 20 December) or €350 after 18^th April. The two- star Punta Cian is €260 at the start and end of the season.
