The holidays- and gift giving in general- is one of the most frustrating times in our lives. Everyone asking what we want or, worse, us having to think of what someone else might want. We seem to get brain freeze in the winter. So here is my list of cool gifts for all snowriders, young and old. Most of these gifts can be used cityside, too, when the thermometer dips.
The DC Craft Pant: will give you the hippest bottom on the hill with its distressed denim, coated with Exotex 10,000 Series fabric weather proofing technology. They hug your legs like true jeans but at the same time give you full range of motion, a poly lining for a soft touch on your skin, breathability, thigh vents, an adjustable waist, gaiters that clip to your boots, and fully taped seams. For the men’s version, try the Sega. www.dcshoes.com. Msrp: $180.
The LG Rumor: Rumor has it there's a phone that's durable, pocket friendly, with Bluetooth to connect with things like your Skull Candy headphones, a MicroSD card slot, takes an OK outdoors photo and won't rob you blind at the Sprint store. It slides open to reveal a thumbwise Qwerty keyboard for easy texting and web surfing while you ride the lift. As a bonus, it comes in "green" packaging. The unbleached box is made of 70 percent post-consumer waste with an eco-friendly water-based coating and glue. Make sure you read the manual as the phone isn't as intuitive as others on the market. www.lgusa.com Msrp: $50.
Level's Fly Glove: You would think that the wrist protector should be on top of your wrist, but not according to Level’s top-notch scientists. The built-in Biomex wrist guard reduces the risk of wrist injury by 750 percent and it’s positioned underneath your wrist and thumb. It slightly affects your grip, but will keep your wrist at the right angle (for protection) in a fall. The technology, developed at the Klinik Gut, Center of Bone and Joint Surgery in St. Moritz, Switzerland, is completely integrated within the glove but also removable. That leaves you with a standalone, waterproof/breathable glove with Membra-Therm Plus membrane, and fleece insulation. www.levelgloves.com Msrp: $85
Patagonia’s Baby Capilene: Baby’s covered too this winter when you swaddle him in this fast-wicking, softly insulating, 64 percent recycled Capilene 3 with eco-friendly Gladiodor natural odor control. The top is built with “grow-fit” adjustable side snaps, and the bottoms have an elasticized-waist and an expanded back gusset for greater diaper room and mobility. The flat seams prevent chafing. Perfect for any winter or cooler weather outing, make these the base layers of choice for junior. www.patagonia.com Msrp: $45.
You would think that Little Miss Matched pajamas with vibrant colors and crazy clown-like patterns would be the last thing your toddler needs to get to sleep, but once she sees them she 's ready for bed. The 100 percent, super-soft cotton offers the perfect snuggle factor and, if you not going out for strenuous activity, these make a sweet baselayer too - which is a good thing. Your child may never want to take them off. www.littlemissmatched.com. Msrp: $30
A ski hat's a ski hat unless it's the Free Love hat by FU-R Headwear: Superskier Kristen Ulmer was wearing this fun, handknit dome keeper all over Snowbird last spring when she wasn't in her helmet. The brushed acrylic outer layer doesn't poke through the micro fleece lining the way wool hats can so there's no itch - only tons of soft flirtiness. www.fu-r.com. Msrp: $30

Everything's Zen. When your best friend takes a Zen ski class and your husband does Yoga before deburring his board, it's no surprise when the waitress flashes a bottle of Zen during your après ski. The first of its kind Zen Green Tea Liqueur comes from a blend of the Japanese green tea leaves, herbs and natural flavors, and makes one of the tastiest lattes you'll ever find. That's for sure if you like sweet green tea. Scientists know that green treat reduces cancer, cholesterol, arthritis, and infections. Now your party drinks have a healthy twist! My personal fave is the Zen Latte- 1.5 parts of Zen and six parts steamed milk. www.zenliqueur.com MSRP: $30
The J-41 Pacific Boot is everything you could hope for in winter fashion. Not only is it great looking, the nubuck/suede uppers with ripstop nylon underlays keep your feet protected from the elements while the faux shearling, quick-dry lining, and odor free sock linings keep your them warm. Wear them out to a nice dinner or when your trudging through snow. The Jeep-engineered outsole of partially recycled, non-scuffing rubber has aggressive traction and durability for a sexy shoe. They’re not waterproof, so spray them with Gore’s Revivex before you wear. www.j-41.com MSRP: $150
Don’t keep your pup locked up inside just because you don’t want mud and snow messing up your SUV. Bring on the road trip to the mountains. The Solvit Deluxe SUV Cargo Liner not only protects your car’s interior, but gives your best friend some extra insulation and comfort via the lightly quilted SOLViTEX cotton twill fabric. The liner gleefully covers the back of your SUV, protecting it from tremendous amounts of hair shed by bigger breeds. Velcro strips (and hook fasteners) secure it in place. Toss that old sleeping bag or quilt you had in back. This liner is much less bulky and there's no scrunching when she jumps in. It’s treated with Stainblok and can be easily washed. All it’s missing is a 3/4 split on one end to protect the back of the rear seat when you put it down flat. www.solvitproducts.com MSRP: $43
Speaking of bringing your best friend on your ski trip … If I could wear the Tuckered Out Bed by West Paw Design like a big old coat, or sleep in it myself, I would. Grabbing this fleece dog bed out of the box, I felt like I was lovingly squeezing a giant, loosely stuffed animal. Your pooch couldn’t be more deserving. A plush bed of Berber fleece and poly fill with a clamshell design is ideal for every age from uncoordinated pup to gentle-stepping senior. The insulation doesn’t lump or condense and the zippered cover removes for quick washes. However, the entire bed is machine washable. It’s also eco-friendly. The IntelliLoft stuffing is created from post-consumer recycled plastic bottles and takes eight times less energy than producing fabric from virgin fibers. www.westpawdesign.com MSRP: $72
Whether your skiing or riding, Dragon's Signature Goggle collection not only has your face covered, but your fashion sense too. Named after and inspired by hot chick snowboarders like Jamie Lynn, Gigi Ruf, and Leanne Pelosi, the edgy frames ooze personality. Primaloft takes on fleece as your midlayer with the OR Neoplume jacket: Designed to fit under your shell or jacket with less bulk and just as much, if not more, warmth, this slim, weather-resistant piece is both lightweight and insulating. The 60 grams of PrimaLoft Sport creates a sweater-like layer that packs down to the size of a baseball. When you need to shed layers, just pack it away. you won’t even notice you’re carrying it at 15 ounces. Or, wear it alone. The 30D Ripstop nylon shell has a DWR finish that banishes wind and drizzle. www.outdoorresearch.com MSRP: $140
