It has been a long ol' summer, but winter is finally here! Checkout the schedule of opening dates for the 2013/14 ski season! Starting Oct. 12 and ending May 11. 

Oct. 12: Tignes opens glacier

Like every season, Tignes will open the show first, from 12 October 2013, with the reopening of the Grande Motte glacier. The Stubai Glacier in Austrian Tyrol also opens on 12th with the Stubai Glacier Oktoberfest.

Oct. 26: Les 2 Alpes opens glacier

Before the official opening of the Les 2 Alpes glacier on Nov. 30, it partially opens Oct. 26 to Nov. 3 when you can go ski test the latest gear at the "Ski and Test & Rock 'n Roll".

Nov. 9-10: Kitzsteinhorn/Zell am See-Kaprun

Zell-am-See Kaprun kicks off with the White Start Games on the weekend of Nov. 9-10.

Nov. 14: Obergurgl-Hochgurgl

Due to its great snow record, from mid-Nov to early May most ski runs down to the village are open.

Nov. 20: Obertauren 

Austria's Obertauren opens Nov. 20 before its official ski opening Nov. 28 when Austrian electro pop band Parov Stelar Band perform an open-air concert.

Nov. 28: Ischgl

Ischgl opens with a reduced lift pass between Nov. 28 and Dec. 20. Canadian rock band, Nickleback, will be joining the celebrations by playing at the legendary Top of the Mountain opening concert.

Nov. 30: Val Thorens, Cauterets, Montgenevre, Val d'Isere, Mayrhofen

A handful of ski resorts are the first to open (excluding glaciers) towards the end of November. Val Thorens opens Nov. 23 with its annual ski testing 'Ski Force Winter Tour'. Val d'Isere, Montgenevre, Les 2 Alpes, Mayrhofen and Schladming aren't far behind with Nov. 30 openings and so too the Pyrenees resorts of Cauterets, Font Romeu Pyrénées 2000, Angles and Piau Engaly.

2013/2014 Season kick-off

The weekend of Dec. 6-7 is when the 2013/14 ski season truly gets underway with the opening of 30 ski stations in France, including Alpe d'Huez, Auron, Courchevel, Les Orres, La Clusaz, La Plagne, Chamonix and Isola 2000 as well as big-name Austrian resorts like St. Anton am Arlberg. (Note: Some open weekends only depending on snow conditions).

All other stations will gradually open from Dec. 14 or at the beginning of the Christmas holidays on December 21.
