Snow report: 80cm forecast for the Alps

Many ski resorts across the Alps have seen substantial snowfalls this week, with up to 60cm reported on Tuesday/Wednesday. But that’s not all this week has in store – huge snow dumps are in the forecast over the next few days – particularly today – with up to 80cm for France, 65cm for Italy, 54cm for Switzerland and 37cm for Austria.

France snow report

French ski resorts got off to a great start this week with some significant snow dumps Tuesday and Wednesday: 30cm of snow was reported in Les Menuires; 25cm in Chamonix and Morzine; 20cm in Megeve, Val Thorens and Les 2 Alpes; 19cm in Les Arcs; 16cm in Courchevel; 15cm in Tignes and Serre Chevalier; 10cm in Avoriaz and Val d’Isere.

Snow forecast – Some big snowfalls are in the forecast for French ski resorts today then on and off until the middle of next week. Total snow forecast in France by Wednesday, Jan. 22: 80cm for Les 2 Alpes and Alpe d’Huez; 68cm for Chamonix and Serre Chevalier; 57cm for Avoriaz; 50cm for Morzine and Megeve; 44cm for La Plagne and Val Thorens; 39cm in Val d’Isere; 37cm for Tignes; 35cm for Courchevel; 28cm for Les Menuires and Meribel; and 24cm for Les Arcs.

Italy snow report

Italian ski resorts have seen substantial snowfalls already this week: 55cm of snow was reported in Courmayeur; 50cm in Cervinia-Breuil; 40cm in Cortina d’Ampezzo; 28cm in Madonna di Campiglio; 20cm in Sauze d’Oulx, Sestriere, Bardonecchia and Val Gardena. But the great news is there’s even more on the way!

Snow forecast – Some significant snowfall is forecast for Italian ski resorts over this weekend and into next week. Total snow forecast in Italy by Wednesday, Jan. 22: 65cm for Madonna di Campiglio; 55cm for Cortina d’Ampezzo; 42cm for Cervinia-Breuil; 40cm for Courmayeur; 37cm for Sauze d’Oulx and Val Gardena; and 28cm for Sestriere and Bardonecchia.

Austria snow report

Austrian ski resorts have also had a good week so far, although not quite as good as French and Italian resorts, with 28cm in Serfaus; 18cm in Obergurgl-Hochgurgl; 15cm in St. Anton am Arlberg; 10cm in Ischgl, Soll and Lech-Zuers; and 5cm in Kitzbuehel.

Snow forecast – There’s snow in the forecast for Austria over the next few days although, again, slightly less than France and Italy. Total snow forecast in Austria by Wednesday, Jan. 22: 37cm for Obergurgl-Hochgurgl; 35cm for Solden; 22cm for St. Anton and Ischgl; 20cm for Mayrhofen and Lech-Zuers; 18cm for Kitbuehel and Soll; and 17cm for Zell am See.

Switzerland snow report

Swiss ski resorts have had a similar week to their alpine neighbours, with some heavy snowfalls Tuesday and Wednesday: 60cm in Arosa; 31cm in Davos Klosters; 19cm in Verbier; 15cm in Grindelwald and Villars; 12cm in Zermatt and 10cm in Crans Montana.

Snow forecast – Snow is one the way to Swiss ski resorts over the coming days too. Total snow forecast in Switzerland by Wednesday, Jan. 22: 54cm for Saas-Fee; 49 for Zermatt; 41cm for Champery; 39 for Verbier; 37cm for Villars; 32cm for Wengen, Grindelwald and Crans Montana; and 22cm for Davos-Klosters.

Andorra snow report

No snow so far this week, 10cm forecast over the next few days in Grandvalira and Vallnord.
