It’s been hot and sunny in most ski resorts this week, reducing the base depth. Snow is prone to slushiness at lower ground, but good skiing can still be had at high altitude. There has been snow for a handful of resorts this week – up to half a metre in the French Pyrenees! This weekend is expected to be sunny in most places, with a sprinkling of light snow.
It’s been another bumper season for the French Pyrenees. And as you might imagine, these resorts have the biggest base depths in the country: Cauterets (420cm), Piau Engaly (380cm) and Gourette (320cm). This week another half a metre of snow has been reported in the French Pyrenees, taking them into Easter with some great snow conditions.
This week, the French Pyrenees resorts have reported the biggest snow dumps in the country: 50cm in Cauterets and Gourette; 15cm in La Pierre St. Martin; and 10cm in Les Angles.
Snow has also fallen in the French Alps: 10cm in La Plagne, Tignes, Champagny en Vanoise, Isola 2000 and Montachavin-Les Coches; and 5cm in La Grave and Orelle.
Snow forecast: There’s just a sprinkling of snow forecast for a handful of French resorts to help freshen conditions this weekend. Snow forecast for Saturday (April 12th): 2cm for Les Arcs and 1cm for Meribel, Chamonix, Courchevel, La Tania.
In Austria there are around 70 ski resorts still open and there has been some snow in the last few days: 45cm in Solden; 20cm in Kitzsteinhorn-Kaprun and Dachstein Glacier; 15cm on the Glacier Weissee-Utenndorf; 12cm in Obertauern; 10cm in St. Anton am Arlberg, Flachau, Hintertuxer Glacier, Molltaler Glacier and Glacier Zillertal 3000; 8cm in Zauchensee; 6cm in Gerlos-Zillertal Arena; and 5cm in Lech-Zuers and Zell am Ziller.
The biggest snow depths can be found on the Moelltal Glacier (430cm), Hintertuxer Glacier (400cm) and Stubai Glacier (350cm).
Snow forecast: Up to 10cm forecast for Austrian resorts this weekend: 10cm for Mayrhofen; 6cm for Kitzbuehel; 5cm for Obertauren and the Austrian glaciers – Moelltal, Dachstein, Hintertux and Zillertal 3000; 2cm for St. Anton am Arlberg and Lech-Zuers; and 1cm for Ischgl.
In Switzerland there are around 60 ski resorts still open and there’s been some new snow this week: 10cm in Gstaad Mountain Rides and Gstaad - Glacier 3000; 5cm in Engelberg and Saas-Fee; and 4cm in Aletsch Arena.
The biggest snow depths can be found at Andermatt (400cm), Engelberg (340cm) and Saas-Fee (330cm).
Snow forecast: Just a sprinkling of snow for Swiss ski resorts this weekend: 4cm for Saas-Fee, 3cm for Engelberg, 2cm for Murren, and 1cm for Verbier.
There’s been no new snow for Italian ski resorts this week, but snow depths are still the highest in Europe: Sella Nevea (650cm), Presena Glacier (600cm), Passo Tonale (550cm), Passo Rolle (420cm).
Snow forecast: Cortina d’Ampezzo is the one Italian resort expecting some very light snow this weekend – 2cm on Saturday 12th.
There’s been no new snow for Andorran resorts this week but ski resorts are open with good conditions: Vallnord/Arcalis (280cm), Grandvalira (230cm), Vallnord/Pal-Arinsal (170cm).
Snow forecast: No new snow is forecast.
