This week we’ve seen a mixture of sunshine and snowfalls across the Alps. While France, Switzerland and Italy have been bathed in beautiful spring sunshine and warm temperatures, it’s been a different story in Austria where 75cm of fresh snow has been recorded this last week.
But the snow ain’t over yet! Temperatures are expected to drop tomorrow and the snow clouds are moving in for Easter weekend. Widespread snowfall is forecast with up to 24cm in France, 23cm in Switzerland, 22cm in Italy and 18cm in Austria.

The sun has been shining all week in France and as a result there’s been hardly any new snowfall –just 5cm for lucky Tignes. The best snow conditions in the French Alps can be found at high altitude: Isola 2000 (270cm), Les 2 Alpes (210cm) and La Plagne (200cm). The French Pyrenees resorts are still have some of the healthiest snow depths not only in France but in the whole of Europe: Cauterets (360cm), Gourette (300cm) and Piau Engaly (280cm).

While much of the Alps was bathed in sunshine earlier this week, the snow clouds were hovering above Austria, bringing some substantial late snowfalls, with up to 75cm recorded in the last seven days: 75cm for the Dachstein Glacier and Kitzsteinhorn-Kaprun; 65cm for Innsbrucker Nordkettenbahnen and Solden; 60cm for the Molltaler Glacier; 50cm for Planneralm, Pitztal Glacier and Wagrain; 40cm for Obertauern; 35cm for Zauchensee and Zugspitzarena; 30cm for Stubai Glacier, Mayrhofen and Zillertal 3000; 25cm for Alpbachtal Wildschonau, Flachau, Obergurgl-Hochgurgl and Kitzbuehel; 15cm in St. Anton; 10cm for Axamer Lizum, Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis and Zell am See; and 5cm for Kuhtai and Lech-Zuers.

Swiss ski resorts have seen a mixture of sunshine and snow this week. In the last seven days up to 24cm of fresh snow has been recorded: 24cm for Samnaun; 12cm for Davos Klosters and Scuol; 7cm in Arosa Lenzerheide; and 5cm for Andermatt.

The weather conditions in Italy this week have been similar to France, mostly sunshine with some isolated snowfall – just 13cm for Speikboden in South Tyrol. But it’s all change this weekend!
Snow forecast: Up to 22cm of snow is expected this Easter weekend. Snow forecast Fri 18th-Sun 20th April: 22cm for Champoluc-Monterosa Ski; 21cm for Madonna di Campiglio; 17cm for Cervinia-Breuil; 16cm for Val Senales; and 15cm for Cortina d’Ampezzo and Kronplatz.
There’s been no new snow for Andorra or Spain this week, just plenty of spring sunshine. Conditions are still pretty good in Andorra with most or all of the lifts running. Some of the best snow depths can be found at Vallnord/Arcalis (250cm) and Grandvalira (180cm).
