Some of the world's top women snowboarders - think Torah Bright, Jamie Anderson, Molly Aguirre, Gretchen Bleiler and Kelly Clark - will be descending on Mammoth Mountain March 26-29 for the 6th Roxy Chicken Jam, which also doubles as the championship of the TTR World Tour.
The pro riders will be competing in slopestyle and superpipe for a piece of the $50,000 purse. Those women not on the automatic qualifying list, but interested in seeing how they stack up against the hotshots, can check online.
On a less serious - but no less competitive - note, there will be a Mascot Challenge Saturday, March 28. Mammoth is inviting snowboarders of all ages, genders, and/or species to participate in full- costume (think pro or college sports teams or fast-food franchise spokeswhatever) against the resort's Woolly and the event's Roxy Chicken mascots in a superpipe competition. The winner will walk - or waddle or galumph - away with half of the $6,000 purse. Registration is free and will take place at the main lodge between 8 a.m. and noon.
There will be a free outdoor concert, featuring Cold War Kids and Santogold, in the Village on the evening of March 28, for non-competitors and non-riders.
