Some light-to-moderate snow has fallen in the Alps this week, freshening slope conditions, but even better news is on the way . . . widespread, heavy snow is expected over the weekend for France, Austria, Italy and Switzerland. And, unlike the snowfall after Christmas, this time even the resorts in the Southern Alps of France and Italy are in for BIG powder dumps.
France has seen some moderate snowfall this week, with 10-30cm in the last 3 days for Chamonix, Val d’Isere, Avoriaz, La Rosiere, Tignes, Val Thorens, Flaine, Morzine and La Plagne. Numerous others ski resorts got a few cm which freshened conditions. See full France snow report.

Huge snow dumps are expected Friday and Saturday (Jan. 16-17), with some of the biggest forecast in the Southern French Alps – where it’s needed most.
