Skiing conditions in Europe are great at the moment thanks to the heavy snowfall earlier in the week, particularly in the French Alps and Pyrenees (see our recent snow galleries). And the fantastic news is that the snow clouds are moving in again this weekend bringing substantial, widespread dumps to the Alps.

Skiers in France have had a great week with some of the best conditions reported in Avoriaz (185-290cm), Morzine (60-290cm), Val d’Isere (95-155cm) and Tignes (91-155cm) where pistes have been nicely topped up and there’s been plenty of powder off-piste. The French Pyrenees has had an even better week with close to two metres of fresh snow being reported. See full 7-day snowfall total for France.

Snow forecast: The heavy snow will ease off in the Pyrenees and instead gather over the French Alps where we’re expecting some substantial snow dumps.  Over the next 3 days: 103cm for La Plagne, Val Thorens and Les Arcs; 95cm for Meribel, Les Menuires, Courchevel, La Rosiere 1850 and La Tania; and 80cm for Chamonix, Morzine and Avoriaz. Fresh snow was reported in Austria Thursday and Friday this week, with powder alarms (more than 20cm) triggered in Innsbrucker Nordkettenbahnen, Silvretta Montafon and Lech-Zuers. All in all there is some excellent skiing to be had this weekend. See full 7-day snowfall total for Austria.

Snow forecast: Some good snowfall is expected in Austria over the next few days, with the heaviest dumps forecast for Monday, March 2. Over the next 3 days: 33cm for Warth-Shrocken, St. Anton am Arlberg and Lech-Zuers am Arlberg; 24cm for Ischgl, Zell am Ziller and Zillertal Arena. See full 3-day snow forecast.
