Tignes - the first French ski resort to open each year - kicks off the 2015/16 ski season this Saturday with the opening of its Grand Motte Glacier. After October 3rd, the resort will gradually open more lifts and slopes as the snow falls and won't close until May 8, 2016.
The slopes of the Grande Motte glacier are located between 3032-3456m and offer 20km of runs from green to black slopes, 4 ski lifts and 450m of vertical. Access to the glacier is by the Perce-Neige funicular (Tignes Val Claret) in just 7 minutes. The glacier is open 8h30-15h30 and prices vary depending on date. €15 per day from Oct. 3-9; €36 per adult and €29 child (aged 5-13) per day from Oct. 10 to Nov. 27.
Each autumn, Tignes attracts pro skiing teams who come to practise timed descents on the famous black run while freestylers hit the glacier's halfpipe.
