The transition from terrain park to beginner area at Buttermilk will be easier this season. A tunnel has been built this summer, which makes it easier for skiers and snowboarders above Uncle Chuck's Glades to get to where they want to go. It separates the advanced terrain park traffic from regular skier traffic.
Buttermilk is known for its amazing terrain parks, as it hosts the ESPN Winter X Games each winter. The best in the world love to rip it up on Buttermilk. But the Aspen-owned resort is also a great place for beginners to learn to ski or snowboard. This tunnel will make it easier to separate the two.
Buttermilk's Meredith McKee resort says, "We knew that it would be better for traffic in that area because it was a high traffic area and we had a lot of different skier and snowboarder levels using that same run. This way, everyone will be going their own pace and staying out of each other's way."
The $360,000 tunnel at Buttermilk was part of $8 million on-mountain improvements at the Aspen area resorts this past summer. It is expected to be open and ready when Buttermilk opens Dec. 12.
