The Kitzsteinhorn glacier has introduced three new runs and a freeride guidance system to improve safety for this winter.
Three new marked runs have been established on the Kitzsteinhorn. The 'Westside Story' - the longest of the Kitzsteinhorn ski runs - starts directly at the exit of the Kristallbahn mountain station. The medium-difficulty ‘Left Wing' run - with its natural pipes and kickers - crosses the twisty terrain at the Langwied lift and begins on the left of the Gletscherjet II and Langwiedbahn mountain stations. Freeriders also can enjoy the already established ‘Pipe Line' and ‘Ice Age' runs.
Additionally, a freeride guidance system has been developed on the Kitzsteinhorn, the aim of which is to provide more safety on the five freeride ski runs. The Kitzsteinhorn also offers freeriders information on the alpine dangers off-piste. At the Freeride Info Base at the Alpincenter, riders will get the up-to-date information on freeride routes, the weather, snow and avalanche situation as well as a checkpoint for their avalanche transceivers, equipment tips and much more.
The glacier in the Zell am See-Kaprun ski area has been praised as one of the best freeriding areas in the Alps due to its snow reliability and the varied off-piste terrain close to the lifts,
If riders want to demonstrate their freeriding talent, they should start at the legendary X OVER ride held April 3-4, 2010, when the daredevil off-piste riders compete at the Freeridecross Langwied.
