The Oetztal Alps opens Nov. 13, 2009. This high-altitude area is one of the first to open its slopes every year and is made up of Obergurgl-Hochgurgl, Soelden-Hochsoelden, Vent, Hochoetz-Kuehtai, Niederthai, and Gries.
A range of activities and events will take place throughout November to celebrate the start of winter. Nov. 14 is the Welcome Party in the Crystal Lounge of Obergurgl village centre, and features live performances by 'Highlights' - one of Austria's top cover bands - and at an admission price of €7.
Nov. 20 marks the opening of the new Hochgurgl-Pill natural toboggan run. It features a sledding party from 5 p.m at the base terminal of Hochgurgl mountain gondola and night tobogganing on the floodlit run. Night tobogganing and night skiing will be open from mid-December.
The Winter Festival in the Obergurgl VIP Concert Hall will take place Nov. 28 and there will be a live performance by Rat Bat Blue - a popular cover band. Admission is €10 per person.
The Austrian band 'Die Seer' will be performing live in the Obergurgl VIP Concert Hall Dec. 4; admission is €35 per person.
The Obergurgl-Hochgurgl ski area is made up of 110 kilometres of linked slopes (35km blue runs, 55km red, and 20km black). The area is ideal for all levels: beginners can take the Gaisberg and Mahdstuhl lifts to the practising slope; intermediates can practise on the long Wurmkogl-Obergurgl/Pill run; and experts can conquer the steep Hohe Mut run and the challenging mogul piste down from Top-Wurmkogl II.
