Whistler Blackcomb looks forward to opening day with a competition for season passes and a ride in the first gondola. The Whistler Blackcomb Opening Day Pass-a-mania competition, however, does not require the best slope skills, but rather a bit of wit.
The resort is on the hunt for 20 male and female competitors in the region. They will compete in a battle of wits in the 24 hours preceding opening day.
The 24-hour battle of wits will weed out those less witty through more than 15 challenges, similar to the way reality TV shows cull out the competition. Competitors win the challenges to gain points. Those with the most points after 24 hours are declared winners.
Two season passes are at stake-one each for the top male and top female competitor. Each will also have the opportunity to ride the gondola first on opening day with the option of bringing along three pals each for the ride.
Participants will be confined to a PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola Sky Cabin stationed at the base of Whistler Mountain when not competing in challenges. They must be able to handle being in close proximity with 20 people for 24 hours and lack of sleep.
Find rules for the competition and applications online only, and turn in applications by Nov. 10 to have a chance to compete. The resort will randomly select 20 competitors--10 male and 10 female to participate in the competition.
Snow will determine Whistler Blackcomb's opening day, which could be anytime Nov. 20-25. The day before Whistler Mountain officially opens, all 20 contestants will gather at the Whistler Village Gondola to begin the 24-hour competition.
All participants will have the chance to win a number of prizes. They also will be able to bypass the lines on opening day and head up the gondola right after the winners and their friends.
