Two West Virginia resorts - Canaan Valley and Timberline - are teaming this winter to offer the Ski the Valley Pass valid for two nights' lodging and two day lift tickets. The resorts are just a few miles from each other in a stretch of real estate that collects approximately 160 inches of snow annually. The floor of the actual Canaan Valley sits at 3,100 feet while the mountain peaks exceed 4,200 feet.
Canaan Valley is planning a Dec. 11 opening. The cost from opening day until Deember is $53 midweek for adults and $43 for juniors. Weekend rates are $60 and $50 respectively. Late season rates are the same starting in March and ending on closing day. The regular season rates midweek are $65 for adults and $55 for juniors. Weekend rates are $98 and $88.
Timberline boasts a 1,000 foot vertical 37 trails and slopes. Canaan Valley lists the same number of trails and slopes with an 850 foot vertical.
The White Grass Nordic Center complements the two alpine resorts with 50 kilometers of trails for cross country skiing or snowshoeing. Twenty-five kilometers are machine groomed. White Grass has its own pricing structure. Timberline and Canaan Valley also run their own Nordic centers.
