KOAT TV-7, in cooperation with Ski New Mexico and nine of its member resorts, have joined a nationwide effort to get kids off the couch and onto the slopes. "Learn a winter sports month" comes to Angel Fire Resort, Pajarito Mt., Red River Ski Area, Ski Santa Fe, Sandia Peak, Ski Apache, Sipapu Ski Resort, Taos Ski Valley, and Enchanted Forest Nordic Center in January 2010. The KOAT Kids Learn to Ski and Ride program is now entering its third year of offering halfday beginner lessons, full day lift ticket and rental equipment.

The program has expanded to include a limited number of reservations during the week, which will add more opportunities to the previous weekend-only program. The idea behind the program is to provide an affordable opportunity for New Mexico kids to learn a great winter outdoor sport.

Children 6-12 years old may contact any one of the eight alpine ski resorts and make a reservation for the program. The cost is $30 per day when it starts on Jan.4, 2010. It runs through Jan. 31, 2010.

The program has limited space available and is by reservation only, so take advantage early. After your tykes move past the beginner phase, it's still a great deal to get lift ticket and rentals for that $30.
