The Orion Independent Music Festival debuts in Park City and when it does, get ready to hold your ears and raise that recorder high. Jan. 14 - 20, 2010, about 60 artists will showcase their original material all along Main Street at various restaurants and nightclubs as well as at venues in Salt Lake City. The event just may bring thousands more people to Park City and keep Main Street buzzing in the week before the Sundance Film Festival Jan. 21-31, 2010.
Steffon Olsen, the founder and CEO of Orion, confirmed that rock n' roll, jazz, folk, and hip hop artists will all come together for this event. He expects music-industry reps from independent labels, possibly already planning to attend Sundance, to arrive early to Park City looking for artists to sign.
Local Utah acts will also be on the roster and at least one national act is rumored to attend The Orion. The name, TBA. One thing that seems definite are the crowds. Between 2,000 to 3,000 people are expected to buzz in and out of Main Street's clubs each night.
Performances will sprout at the Star Bar, Doolan's Sports Bar & Grill, Flanagan's, Cisero's, and Harry O's among other hotspots. The public will be able to buy a festival pass for $40 and organizers will sell a limited number of $5 tickets to individual concerts on the day of the shows.
Organizers dream that the week-long fest will one day become a key destination for talent scouts looking for the next big thing in music.
FYI: The Orion Independent Music Festival is still accepting submissions from bands, if you are interested in playing at the Fest.
