Holiday celebrations begin at Big Sky Resort and Moonlight Basin in mid-December. You can catch the holiday spirit with all kinds of activities from sleigh rides to skiing with the red-suited man himself.
The Big Sky Holiday Stroll takes place in the Meadow Village and Big Sky Town Center Dec. 11-12. The fun includes sleigh rides, scavenger hunt, cookie decorating, letters to Santa, a bonfire with roasting s'mores, and an outdoor movie. Celebrities, such as Chrysti the Word Smith, Frosty the Snowman, and, of course, Santa will also be attending.
The event includes the new Festival of Trees-an auction to raise money for local charities. The trees will be on display in Firepit Park. Santa also shows up for the third annual Pancakes with Santa breakfast at the Simkins Showroom at Town Center on Saturday morning. Kids can also get their pictures taken with Santa.
Moonlight Basin turns their Family Night Dec. 23 into a holiday celebration. Family Nights in the Madison Village Base Area run from 4:30 to 8 p.m. with sledding, a bonfire, and homemade pizzas. Santa will visit, plus families can decorate cookies. Make reservations for the Holiday Family Night with Moonlight through the Mountain Concierge.
Santa hits the slopes on Christmas Day at Moonlight Basin. You can hook up with the red-suited man for a run Dec. 25.
Ongoing activities besides skiing and riding the slopes of Lone Mountain are also available in the area. Sleigh rides are available along with sleigh ride dinners. Moonlight Basin also offers dog sled tours. You can also take the family ice skating at Moonlight from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily on the mini-rink outside Moonlight Lodge. Rental skates are available for $5. Montana Yurt Dinners, accessed by a snowcat ride, depart daily from Big Sky for those with reservations.
