Squaw Valley has opted to extend their Furlough Friday program for another winter to help out furloughed state workers with discounted lift tickets. College students can also purchase discounted lift tickets with online coupons.
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed an executive order last winter to combat plummeting state revenue with layoffs and furloughs two days per month. In response, Squaw Valley introduced its Furlough Friday program last winter to allow California state workers a way to ski at a discount.
The Governor extended the executive order this summer furloughing state workers and closing state offices for three Fridays every month, and Squaw reciprocated by extending its discount ticket program again. Lift tickets will be discounted to $49 for furloughed state workers on select Fridays.
Furlough Fridays are scheduled for Jan. 8 and 22; Feb. 5 and 19; March 5, 12, and 19; and April 2, 9, and 16. Discounted lift tickets are available for purchase by state workers who have a valid state identification card or State of California pay stub dated within one month and photo identification. Tickets are available only at ticket booth "D" adjacent to the adult snow sports school between 8:30 and 11 a.m.
College students can also purchase $49 lift tickets Mondays through Thursdays except for Dec. 27-Jan. 3, Jan. 16-17, and Feb. 13-14. Online coupons are required along with a valid college photo ID. Coupon use is limited to one per person per day, but Squaw does not restrict the number of coupons that can be used during the season.
