We stayed in Montriond village. The ardent gondola is terrific and the mosette peak and the Swiss side are very special There is also a very friendly non-ski atmosphere. Avoriaz has its own pool and there are plenty of great restaurants too.
Great for beginners and families has loads of terrain and ski area
Limited apres ski and not much back country

Avoriaz is a beautiful, well laid out resort that I keep coming back to again and again.

We have been to Avoriaz a few times in the past years, and apart from a few new buildings, remains the same. Most importantly there are no vehicles in the resort, all transportation by foot, horse and cart, or on change over day there are snow cats to assist with luggage etc . The commercial area is concentrated mainly in a strip of about 250 metres. There are other areas, all within a couple minutes walk. The unique feature is that one can go to the highest point by the use of public elevators, which means getting around even easier.. The resort is truly ski-out/ski-in. Access to the chair lifts is possible by skiing from ones residence, the same is true of the return. Snow is always plentiful and the runs are extremely well groomed. If there is one criticism, that is that residents don't always think about others in the buildings and many a time, late at night there is loud talking in the passages, or walking heavily with ski boots. There are ample bars, restaurants and 3 supermarkets, which, to us, is ample. No shop is more than a few minutes walk from ones apartment. We wlll return!
All pedestrian resort.
People not respecting others rights. e.g late at night.
Of all the French resorts I have visited, this must be the friendliest of them all. We had lessons for the kids (ages 4 and 6) and the teachers were second to none. The staff were very helpful, especially when the kids had problems getting on. The resort has loads of blue runs to get the blood flowing, many nice reds to get the thigh burns and nice wide mogul runs for those who still have the knees and nerves to challenge them. The resort also looks very nice when arriving... Not all concrete abd brick but nice 'swiss Mountain' look. The only drawbacks are the button lifts where there should be chairs and lack of connection between the Super Morzine and the other side of the mountain (accessed by a little train but don't do it at noon as the driver takes his lunch OR by a free bus service). The scenery was also GREAT. Good choice of restaurants all over the resort (Avoriaz, Morzine, Les Gets), the food was better than average and the prices reasonable. The snow was starting to disappear at the bottom (Morzine) but was great in Avoriaz. We are planning to return next year!
Very friendly for a French resort
Too many button lifts (some are very rough)

Walking about without cars, just horse and sleighs, also motorised carriers for getting heavy luggage from the cale car to the apartment, after that plain walking. Not a very big resort but has everything one needs. Restaurants, bars, shops concentrated mainly in one area. There is a variety of supermarkets, so there is a choice. People are friendly and helpful,. We are situated in an apartment building facing the slopes, about 50m from the commercial centre, but on the far side so have zero noise. lifts plentiful, long pleasant runs without queues, longest wait maybe 5 minutes.Mainly blue runs, sometimes seem worse than the red ones. Very few black runs, but all in all, nothing that cannot be skiiid.First time we've experienced a viilage of about 20 restaurants concentrated at the top of the chair lifts. No shortage of variet in runs as well as in eats! Lift pass includes the cable car, so a trip down to Morzine is a pleasant diversion. The best part that Avoriaz is only 2 hours from Geneva, so cheaper, quicker and easier to reach
Quiet, good long runs, fast lifts, hardly any waiting
Utopia without the downside.
