Flaine Overview

Flaine

The ski resort of Flaine is a specially constructed town, dedicated to skiing. The centre is reserved for pedestrians and close by to your accommodation you'll find everything you need for your holiday: Ski slopes, ski lifts, an array of shops and also leisure areas. Car parking is plentiful and to make things a little easier you are allowed to park your car outside your door for a limited time for loading and unloading baggage. The Grand Massif ski area links the resorts of Flaine, Morillon, Les Carroz, Samoëns and Sixt Fer à Cheval. Situated between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc the area is exceptional offering picture postcard scenery all around. Originally devised by Emile Allais, Flaines ski runs follow the natural contours of the mountain. They provide a wide variety of terrain for skiers, from beginner to expert. Several of the ski runs are also specially designed for beginners. They are accessible by 4 free ski lifts: The Pré drag or chairlift, the Bissac rope tow lift and the yogurt pot style lift in the Flaine Forum. Right from the top of Flaine skiers can discover the 14 km long blue run which follows the perimeter of the Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval Nature Reserve. In the Aujon area of the resort, the Flaine “Jampark” is reserved for all the freestylers. The team organise a range of activities and events including BBQ, DJ's and snow parties! The thrill seekers in Flaine can attempt the “Combe de Gers” which is a steep run offering some wild skiing for those with a little bit of experience. The long, technical and steep descent drops more than 800 vertical metres. Being up relatively high, Flaine receives good snow fall and has many spots to make the most of the newly fallen powder snow, try out the “Lindars” downhill for example. After skiing or if you fancy having a rest day off the slopes Flaine has many activities on offer waiting to be discovered: Ice Driving, Ice Quad Biking, Karting on ice, paragliding, helicopter rides, snowmobiling and rock climbing to name but a few, even if you're not skiing flaine has something on offer for all tastes. Winter sports holidays don't always have to be fast paced and filled with action, in fact finding a little moment for one to be calm and serene is important for many. For those visitors who prefer to enjoy the warm, Flaine has lots of things to do: a cinema, an ice rink and a fitness centre where you will find saunas, relaxation rooms, a weight room, cardio machines, a solarium, physiotherapy and massages. What many visitors don't know is that Flaine is also a cultural landmark in France. At the bottom of the slopes there is a range of monumental art. Artists include Picasso, Dubuffet, Vasarely and Bury... With that the buildings themselves also have an interesting history; many of them are even classified as historic monuments. Visitors can enjoy guided tours of the resort which are held each week. In Flaine children are long from forgotten. There are is a great choice of things to do, keeping the little ones occupied: day-care, nursery, kids club, in-hotel childcare services. There are also ski and snowboard courses along with freestyle specific courses which are open to all. Also on offer a range of activities off-slope, quad bikes, tobogganing, dog sledding, snowshoeing, rock climbing, ice rink, cinema and a library to name but a few.
