Tignes Brev is a lovely village and great for total beginners. Go up higher into 1800, 2100 etc for greater opportunities but beware that the gondola close early if you need them to return!!!! Val D S is a fabulous ski area and the glacier delivers some amazing views and skiing. … but beware it takes up to 2 hours to return to Tignes Brev!!
Vast ski area linking Val D S… Fantastic skiing up high on the glacier. Good off piste opportunities.
Tignes Brev is beautiful but a long slog to get to from the mountains.

Wish they would upgrade some of the lifts and make some more easy to get to beginner slopes.
Wide pistes
Some lifts are very slow
Highly recommended. Something for everyone at every level.
Snow sure . Massive area on one lift pass including classy resort of Val D’Isere. Something for everyone, boarders, skiers, non skiers and families .
Lift pass expensive , over £300 but it is France and you get two massive areas so I guess it’s reasonable value for money .

Not all French people are rude. Some take great pride in delivering exquisite and sophisticated standards of service. Sadly none of them work in Tignes. The abiding feeling is cynicism. It's like, "We don't really want you here, making work for us but give us your money (no, a bit more!) and we'll put up with you." It's hard to find a good restaurant - in 2 weeks last season I found one I'd be happy to go back to and 2 I'd tolerate - but easy find an expensive one: basically they all are! Every place I've been in Italy was more friendly and every place in Austria more fun. And even most of the places I've been in France had a bit more charm and character. Most were more friendly too. What Tignes does have is altitude and a glacier that is still (only just) skiable. This makes it a safer bet for snow at the start and the end of the season. The other really high French resort that serves these needs is Val Thorens and the two places used to be very similar but over the last few years Val Thorens has invested huge amounts in improving its lift system, renovating the town and building some pretty high class accommodation while Tignes has done none of this. The town is scruffy, graffiti covered elevators don't work most of the time and you be lucky to get a smile off a local all week, even when you're giving them your money. Like I said, the way it feels, they're not happy to be taking your cash, they're still just tolerating you.
Lots of pistes, altitude
bad service at high prices, charmless, run down

My first ever trip was to Tignes, in 2015. I have since visited numerous resorts and towns around France, returning to Tignes last spring, as an intermediate snowboarder. The 300km of linked pistes make for a huge amount of varied skiing/boarding. I stayed at Tignes 2100 on my first ever stay which was a great hotel with excellent food and drinks however this was all inclusive and the prices for those not staying were high. My second visit was in a self-catered apartment block in Val Claret. I actually preferred the bars in Val Claret as well as the ease of access for the G Motte. I have visited most of the biggest linked French ski areas (3V, Espace Killy, PDS) as well as some other areas such as Chamonix valley. Tignes/Val is my favourite, predominantly due to the sheer amount of lift accessible off piste which is truly endless and true ski in/out, particularly for Val Claret. If you want a village atmosphere and great bar, shop + restaurant choices then I'd give it a miss or stay in Val.
Outstanding ski and sbowboard terrain, on and off piste
A lack of nightlife and village atmosphere you would get in non purpose built resorts

Travelled with 4 other guys in Feb 2018. The slopes were great, plenty of fast runs and variety for beginner skiers too. The biggest disappointment of the trip was the Apres-Ski. I was shocked. I've never seen anything like it. The last 3 trips of 2018 and 2017 were as follows: Morzine, Bansko, Tignes and Ellmau. Price for fondue in the evening was €39 per person.... for melted cheese!!! We found both the quality and price of dining in Tignes to be unsatisfactory. The prices high and the quality low. We dined out twice and on both occasions regretted it. Tignes was by far the worst resort I have visited for evening entertainment and lack of atmosphere. So much so that a group of guys from the UK spent most of their evenings in the apartment cooking and drinking wine. I would certainly never return to Tignes and would be far more likely to stay in Val D'Isere if I wanted to ski these great runs again.
Slopes, access to a wider ski zone
Apres-Ski, prices
Ben's iphone 6s

Absolutely amazing app, use it every year around this time when planning my holiday
For more experienced skiers who have been to tigne, you know where the runs are and the forecast and snow depth measurements are pretty accurate.
For beginners, it's easy to use the app but they won't end up using the whole mountain. Under the open runs beginner, have a link to blue runs so they can plan a easy holiday.
