Fab resort and amazing for families. Slopes on the Leogang side are great even in the afternoon, the area is so big you don’t have to do a run twice in a day. Some great resorts and hotels in Leogang but our favourite is Riederalm / the good life resort with a thermal bath and sauna for the end of the day!

Been skiing to Canada and France before but this place trumped them both. I only went for a few days as part of a stag do and both skiing and apres-ski were exceptional. Prices are favourable compared to the Alps and the views were astonishing. They closed a lift on one morning which meant we had to go down a black run which was actually my favourite slope and not much steeper than the reds. I'm an average, fairly competent skiier and would love to go back here one day. Town is very pretty with good choice of food and place to drinks and likewise on the mountain. Highly recommmend going over the top and skiing over the otherside of the hill for some incredible views and great variety of slopes
Fantastic snow, views, large number of runs
Bit of jaunt from the Airport

I continue to come to this resort year after year. There are numerous wide sunny open runs, where anyone can look good. There is the odd steep black but not on a par with any French resort. The on piste cafes are all traditionaly built and cosy, often with really big bread type ovens warming the cafes up. Hinterglemm is quieter than Saalbach (Hinterhagenalm - Saalbach - is a must do - the place rocks from about 4.00pm onwards) The Goastall in Hinterglemm is a great ski-to apres place with it's own "live goats" - you have to visit it to appreciate it's uniqueness and this place rocks for apres and into the early hours. It's walkable from the town centre up the piste. I have never used the ski school but all the nursery slopes are easily accessible from the town centre and have main lifts nearby. This is an attractive village, recently added buildings in the last 12 months have been sympathetically introduced and it's hard to comprehend that they have not been there for a lot longer. The place has a strong Austrian decorative feel.. All in all a definate must for those looking for a great apres scene and lots of skiing thats not too stressful on the nerves. I look forward to my trip already booked for 2011.
WIDE OPEN PISTES - APRES LIVELY
PISTES PRETTY EASY.
I noticed that the last review submitted was about a year ago and by the same guy from prior reviews. I am an east coast resident (charlotte, NC) but ski all over the place (Colorado, Utah, Germany, Austria, etc). I had the chance to ski (am skiing) Saalbach this weekend (April 4th/5th). Every "groomed" slope was open but (of course), most off pistle was (understandably) marked OB. Some very good long runs that will KILL your legs. Decent reds and a black or two. Lots of easy Blue runs. Weather was freezing at night and in the 50's during the day. Morning is pretty decent but the conditions turn to slush by 2pm so get the skiing in early. Goatstadl was DEAD @ 3:00 in the afternoon so I didn't stop but a set of friends I met from England said they came in right after I left and it started to "come alive" around 3:30-4pm so the party is still here albeit in selective locations. The clubs in Alpenhotel and nearly every other late night were all shut down so I spent the Friday night in the hotel bar (Eva). Very family-oriented resort but can also serve the party crowd. I skied Oberteraun about 3 weeks prior. The two resorts are similar in size. Getting into the center of town in Saalbach is a bit tricky for a first timer (myself) as you have to take a tunnel once you actually get to Hinterglemm in order to get to city center. Once there, it was a pleasure.
Full Mountain open
Many party "staples" closed
Saalbach is a resort not may Americans know about. It is tucked away in its own valley not far from the beautiful resort of Zell am See. The skiing here is some of the best in the Alps. The ski area spreads itself along both sides of the valley. This gives you a variety of ski conditions due to the exposure of the sun. Keep this in mind when skiing the “ski circus” of Saalbach. With fifteen Gondolas and a multitude of lifts, there is always a new adventure to be found on the mountain. The resort has beautiful chalet style restaurants scattered through out the mountain. Skiing is not the only thing to do at Saalbach. The night life is what is to be expected at an Austrian ski resort – fun and unforgetable. With your ski pass you can ride the gondola in the evening at Hinterglemm for free to take advantage of a their rodel run. If you are looking for even more speed take a spin at the ice track with go-carts fitted with spiked tires. Saalbach is a resort that you could come back to time and time again.
Yes, Saalbach Hinterglemm is a MUST! Go there and enjoy the slopes! Snow & weather was very good! We stayed at Pension Talheim (http://ww.talheim.at), it was very nice. Also go for Apres Ski to the Goathous in Hinterglemm!
