Went on a family trip to Serre Chevalier - one adult and two children. I had skied once before in Mayrhofen in Austria and this was my children's first time. I was attracted to the location due to it offering a number of green runs. I thought these would be gentil low gradient runs ideal for a beginner. We were based in Briancon which is one of the four towns in the valley area of Serre Chevailer. The nursery area which is at the first stop on the Prorel gondola is relatively small and in my opinion quite steep for a nursery slope and is not a suitable area for a complete beginner. At the top of the Prorel there are 2 green runs. I found that these were quite steep also and I have been on much easier blue runs in Mayrhofen, Austria. These two runs were also quite short so a lot of queuing up for short runs as this area was very busy with ski schools. And if you wanted to move into the next resort area by skiing there was a very steep blue at the top of this green area which had sections more like red runs. We got a bus to down the valley to other resort areas to look for easier greens and again these were similar to mid range blue runs that I had done in Austria and not suitable for beginners on the first 1-3 days. I think it is important for a resort to offer some easy runs for beginners to find their feet and feel free to let go and try to practice turning and ploughing etc. This would mean that a family could go on a few runs together after morning ski school. On our last day we did find a good beginner nursery area in Monetier which is at the other end of the valley with a number of easy short runs suitable for a beginner. This was about a 30 mins bus ride from Briancon. There were also a few of the green runs closed. But the green runs I tried were all steep and the blues were also quite steep for a beginner. I personally don't think that Serre Chevailer is a suitable area for beginners. The 4 resort areas are very nice and the facilities in terms of restaurants and bars are very good. There is good transport between the 4 resorts. As a resort it has a lot to offer. The après ski in Briancon is not that exciting. When you come down from the mountain there is one pub with skiers knocking about and then the town which is going out the usual business that happens in a regular French town. I think the other 3 areas are better for après ski. There are many positives to this area but only if you are an experienced skier. I personally wouldn't recommend it for a beginner first time skier.
Very good for experienced skiers
Poor for beginners

Amazing historic town of Briancon is a place to enjoy France while skiing without a ski town feel , but if you want a better access to challenging terrain or more convenient stay then move one valley over. Terrain is great with many challenging options further to the right , and the snow at 2k plus is quite good . Aging infrastructure is a minus but it is reflected in the cost of the ticket . Granted we were during a busy week and could not find an upscale place , but budget places are plenty . Well it was livable… not a small French affordable place frequented in many French resorts. Overall a very good resort !
Surprisingly vast terrain, where you can find skiing for everyone
Aging lifts , Apre Ski is not a forte

Just flown back from Turin, having spent long weekend in Ser Che with teenage daughters. First time and will defo return. Ski range in terms of breadth and depth is staggering. 2 hour easy drive from Super efficient Turin, with a full valley of easy to access base stations that opens up ski domains which make Le 3V look miserly and over priced. This valley has it all. Nothing is left out. Super impressed. But I would advise you rent or take a car to get the full experience on demand. Chantemerle is the apres ski capital of The Valley IMO and good for eating out options also. The Grand Bains are worth a trip in Monetier but there are many other spa/pool alternatives. Ski pass is a pricey, but where isn’t these days? If you buy a week (6days) you get a day in Montgenevre included…so it’s worth hiring the car.
Vast ski-able domain with huge variation of terrain. Very reasonable prices. A true winter adventurer’s paradise. The thinking man’s Chamonix.
Need a car to fully experience it. The bus is cheap 3-euro day pass, but it’s French in terms of reliability and frequency.

We go here alot in winter and summer great runs and alot quieter than other resorts if you time it right, January is a great time to go to miss the crowds and enjoy the pistes, summer is awesome aswell if you like mtb , Turin is a good place to fly to with a real easy 1hr.45 m transfer straight up to the resorts, highly recommend serre chevalier, love the place hence why we keep going back time and time again. Oh and if you want some nice clothes, visit a shop called outland In chantermal its awesome always packed with amazing kit;)
Quieter than others, 300 days of sunshine , great runs,

We travelled in the forst week of February from Luton to Serre Chevallier via Turin for the first time last year. The journey was straightforward. There are plenty of lifts in Serre Chevalier and the queues were short. The snow conditions were excellent and we were able to ski down to the village. Recommend Serre Chevalier highly.
Easy reach from Turin Airport and good ski lifts

This was a fantastic Mountain range with a wide variety of riding. When it snows here, an absolute blast, long beautiful runs with plenty off trees. Freeriding is phenomenal. Easily spend a week here will no get bored of runs. Riding for all levels. TONS of features....Freestyle the entire mountain, A blast. Not many Extreme features/Cliff drops unless willing to hike. In that case sweet lines available for those who know what they are doing. I even enjoyed the catwalks.
Plenty of snow/lots of acreage, awesome freeride snowboarers will love. terrain for all levels of riders.
Couple anti climactic drag lifts.

First time. Would return for another go. Plenty of skiing possibilities throughout including a must to visit Montgenevre for upper elevation resort and quiet pistes. Next time hope to get transport to Les Deux Alpes or Alpes D'Huez for day trip. People are friendly and we found a great pub with lovely local beers for apre ski. Lift attendants were great.Traveled with Crystal Ski who were exceptional in their service and care for customers.
plenty of red terrain and some good open area for powder. Villeneuve is good base for access ski areas.
some restaurants overcharged on mountain
