Bejar-La Covatilla Overview

Region Wide Comparison

Area Profile

It took 70 years, but the small Spanish ski area of La Covatilla is now operational, with a modest six ski runs served by a modern quad chair and two surface lifts. Pioneers built a ski refuge in the area in the 1930s, but it gradually went out of use, now the regional government has invested in the new centre which has a 268m vertical, between 2000 and 2368 metres above sea level. There are 4.5km (just under three miles) of trails and a further 5km (3 miles) of cross country runs, but no snowmaking as yet. With the full title of Sierra de Bejar La Covatilla and known to its friends as Bejar, the centre's two very-easy (green) and four easy (blue) runs are all above the treeline. It's located an hour's drive from the university town of Salamanca and has its own ski school and rentals, making it an ideal first timers resort.
