Lermoos is a welcoming ski resort situated in the Zugspitz arena, quite close to Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Garmisch’ has a train station with links to Innsbruck and Munich airport, from the airport it is 2 hours to Garmisch by I.C.E train and then a mere half hour to Lermoos by the local train). The resort has a very good ski school and nearly all the instructors speak English, although some better than others. I went t Lermoos three years in a row, 2006-2008 and as a complete beginner the resort was perfect – 33km of piste meant that there was enough not to get bored but not enough for more advanced skiers meaning less people cutting you up on the slope. Having said that, there is some off piste, although I wouldn’t advise skiing it without a ski-instructor/good knowledge of the mountain. Unfortunately it lacks any real ski park/jumps but does have a few challenging black runs. I believe the resort was/still is featured in a Irish ski magazine as quite a few Irish people go to the resort (depending if you go over the school holidays) so there are plenty of people you can talk to. There are a couple of cafes up the mountain were you ca eat your lunch and the ski school runs from 10-12 and then 14-16 giving you enough time to go to your apartment for lunch. The village has a Spar were you can get your basic food from + some more and a few restaurants. OVERALL: good place for beginners/those with not as much confidence, the ski school is very good, has a few black runs/bit of off-piste but not so much – not recommended for advanced skiers or snowboarders, can be a queue in the morning for the lift, but is nothing more than 10 mins. *Very Good For Families* PLEASE NOTE: the pictures were taken when there was very little snow at the time, hence the lack of snow on the trees, roofs, bottom of mountains
good ski school, easy slopes, some harder stuff
no ski park/jumps, not very much off-piste, some queues in the morning (10/15 mins)
