I HAVE SKIED IN THE ALPS FOR THE LAST 30 YEARS AND FOUND THIS AREA TO BE DISAPPOINTING. VERY LIMITED IN VARIATION AND NOT SUITED TO INTERMEDIATES. LOCATION SEEMS TO SUFFER FROM POOR WEATHER.........IN PARTICULAR LOW CLOUD, FOG ETC.
QUIET AREA WITH NO LIFT QUEUS
LIMITED RUNS FOR INTERMEDIATES POOR WEATHER RECORD

This is my 4th year of going back to Obergurgl. Mainly because my young son (now 9) loves the place. I probably would not go there with a group of advance adult skiers. I wish there was a local wellness centre without having to drive down to Solden.
Family friendly, guaranteed snow
Small and expensive

Very pleasant small town/village with lots of cosy Austrian-style hotels, good for families as there is no through traffic. Went there three times, all in December and have to say, the snow cover in the last couple of years (2015, 2014) was not as good as in 2006. Global warming, alas...

been to some of the best ski places in Tirol and Canada. Simply can't beat Obergurgl for consistently uncrowded slopes, variety of runs, snow preparation and choice of accommodation and restaurants. Been going there every year since 1992, and will do as long as I can still ski.

We love this resort. and come back year after year. Hotels are good and ski area is enough for us. This is a small resort but hey, we live in the fast lane all year who wants to dance the night away when the snow and food is this good.
Ski shops very good. Great for families and over 30's
little night life for 18-30's
Obergurgl and Hochgurgl are connected with each other through a cable car so you can ski in both areas without taking a bus. The nature is very beautiful. The mountains are pretty high and are very rough. There are not many trees where those two villages are located in because they are above 1800meters. But therefore you have through the winter season very good snow conditions. The slopes are in all different varieties. Enough for the beginners and also for the experts the area offers easy runs, black runs, skiroutes and even touring is possible. The slopes are very wide and long so you can really enjoy your turns. They did not had a funpark over there when I joined the area. Also the possibilities for making party are rare but we always went to Sölden where you can party all the night. The prices are higher than in Sölden and more families prefer the area, but I would recommend the area to everyone.
beautiful landscape
