This is one of the best ski resorts around. The Wild Gruben route (perhaps 10km from top to bottom) is fun and breathtaking. There are easy slopes, but also challenging ones, making it perfect for all. I like how kids under 10 years old ski for free. Also, get the Stubai Super Ski Pass. In case of bad weather on the glacier, you can ski at Schlick (a bit lower, but has fun off piste skiing for the kids), sled at Elfer (8km sled route), or go swimming for free in Neustift near Schlick.
Amazing views, many routes, great value

lovely skiing area restaurants on mountain are always clean and welcoming, can be a bit busy around 1 o'clock after lunch time rush is better..skiing to the bottom of mountain is a must if you are a good skier, can be a bit tricky towards the end..
this will be my 6th year and there has always been nice groomed runs.
main lift can get a bit busy in the morning

Very beautiful glacier. The nature is incredible and so is the skiing area. The runs are not so difficult what is the main problem of the glacier areas but the slopes are very bright and most of them are red but you won´t find many black ones. So a great opportunity for families and beginners. But also the experts will find a lot of freeride space so they won´t get bored. I mainly go to the glacier beside the main season that means in October or even in June where you still have good conditions to start or to end a season. The last times they also had a good park up on the mountain. The area is easy to reach from Innsbruck. There are several buses running. So it might be possible to live in Innsbruck and go for skiing into the Stubaital. In the valley itself there are some more skiing areas like the Schlick 2000 and the 11er Lifte. So you can also change to different areas if you stay for loner time in this valley. Night life direct at the glacier station is worse but the hotels are also not directly located at the valley station so therefore you have different towns to go for some drinks after skiing. If you want to party hard you have to go to Innsbruck where you can celebrate all the night.

Even though we stayed in Innsbruck, it is only about 1.5 drive from the city. We had 3 attempts to go there, however it was closed 2 times due to high winds. We managed to get there once and the snow was great. There are slopes for everyone; great family spot. The complex is very modern and well maintained.
Great powder
can be windy
For a first time family ski trip it had everything we wanted. 21km from Innsbruck airport to our accomodation in Fulpmes. We did all our resevation online and saved a mint. Hired a car and drove there in less than 30 min. First day we just had lunch on the terrace at Gamsgarten and then went to the intersport shop on site for our rental equipment. The ski's and boots for the kids were waiting in a rack with our names on them. The wife and kids had a resevation with the ski school and that was clear and easy to follow. I just delivered them to school and went off doing my own thing for couple of hours in the morning and after a superb lunch on the terrace at Gamsgarten. The ski-ing itself was not too technical but there are some nice long runs if you go from wilde spitz (3330 metres) down to mutterberg (1750 metres) Kids had a presentation after their course which was good reward and both children aged 11 & 9 had a fantastic time. In the evening I can recommend the Jagdhutte and the Grillstube restaurants (both in Neustift) although you may have to book. A warm welcome with superb portions of food. The only down side for me was the cable car coming down off the mountain. I dont like cable cars anyway but if the wind gets up they swing quite a lot. I recommend the whole place for beginners and intermiediates but those who like the real challenge should avoid.
I also am going to Stubai in January and again in March, this will be my third and fourth visits to the place, its superb lovely long blues and reds and some beautiful mountain lodges to have one or two sherbets !! fantastic apres-ski but not to over the top like some places, very good prices on the food and drink overall a top place
I went to Stubai,Austria last February. It took about 3 days to get used the main lift system getting to the top. Once you know the best times, the earlier the better, it was great, Those renting it was best to rent on the mountain which allows you then to leave your skiis and boots checked at the mountain. The mountain has it all. good long runs, a great kids program the Mickey Mouse Club, and good food on the mountain. I stayed in Neustift and loved it. My hotel was next to ELFER Mountain a smaller mountain in Neustift and was great for intermediate and advanced skiers. Great food in the village and a good night like. I am going back again this January now that I know the ropes. It is only 45 minute drive from Munich Airport and during winter fares are as cheap as flying out west. I would rate it up there with one of the best trips because of the friendliness and the apres ski party atomsphere...
