[R102R, Cascade Mountain], located literally just a snowball's throw from I-90/I-94 in central Wisconsin, is an easy drive for thousands of Midwest skiers. Chicago is three hours away, Milwaukee less than two, and Madison just a scant 30 minutes. It's one of the top day-trip ski areas in the Heartland.

It's also located within minutes of Wisconsin Dells, the waterpark capital of the Midwest, and Cascade packages with many of the Dells' indoor waterpark resorts. Why drive home when you can extend the fun with an overnight lift and lodging package?

Midweek lift and lodging packages at the Days Inn in nearby Portage, Wis., start from $89 per person. Ski packages with Raintree Mt. Olympus Resort, complete with an indoor waterpark, start from $139.99 weekdays and $169.99 on weekends. Some even offer free shuttles to Cascade and back. Follow the link below to check out the many available packages.

Cascade may be busy on winter weekends, but the ski area is equipped to handle crowds. Lifts, simply put, are its strength.  With 10 lifts including a high-speed, detachable quad, they can move a lot of skiers uphill quickly. Midweek you will have no problem with lift lines.

The 460-foot ski hill offers 27 trails, four terrain parks and a halfpipe, and tubing lanes. Cascades bump runs are legendary.  They'll make you wish for a teenager's knees again. Mogul Monster, with Volkswagen-sized bumps, is open to expert skiers only.  Beginners and low intermediate skiers and riders have their own dedicated area compete with a carpet lift, chairlifts and a starter terrain park with small features. It's a complete family area.

Staying in nearby Dells, you can ski all day and slide all night on the waterslides.  The kids will love it.
