Advertorial

Making first tracks early in the morning with the fresh air on your face and the vast panorama of the Tyrolean Alps at your feet - this is the start to a perfect ski day. But the Zillertal Valley offers so much more: ice cave exploration, year-round skiing, 535kms of pistes for all levels, cosy mountain huts, paraskiing, tobogganing, ice skating and more!

Hintertuxer Glacier: The king of the valley

The Hintertux is Austria's only year-round ski resort. From the summit you can enjoy impressive views over the Tyrolean Alps. The 60kms of pistes are an ideal place to really exert yourself: from October to May, Freeride descents brimming with powder are a thrilling ride, while freestylers can try out new stunts in the Betterpark Hintertux from April to early June and September to December.

A hidden ice palace

25 meters below the piste you'll find the Natur Eis Palast (Nature’s Ice Palace), open all year round. Inside this unique glacial cave you can explore sparkling ice crystals, a crystal-clear ice lake and mystical legends about giants.

Zillertal breaks records

Carve, race and play on Zillertal's 535km of pistes of all difficulty levels and in numerous snow parks. The descent to Zell am Ziller within the Zillertal Arena ski resort forms the longest valley run in Austria - its distance amounts to nearly 10km. That means no mercy on your calves! Choosing a ticket is super easy by the way: The Zillertal Superskipass combines all four large skiing areas and thus promises unlimited fun on the slopes.

Cosy mountain huts

Recharge the batteries with a cup of mulled wine or hot cocoa in any one of the 80 serviced cosy mountain huts in the ski area; Kaiserschmarrn and dumplings are also big favourites! The exclusive Kristalhütte cabin in the Hochzillertal ski area, is a cool and trendy place with a cosy feeling and offers guests après-ski fun with a VIP factor. Fans of fine cuisine can also tickle their tastebuds in one of the ten award-winning Tyrolean inns in Zillertal.

Adrenalin junkies

Anyone who believes that a winter holiday only takes place on the slopes does not know Zillertal: 16 different providers ensure plenty of action by taking adrenaline junkies up to lofty heights for a paraskiing adventure. Not recommended for the faint-hearted!

Try something new

A different excursion will require pure muscle strength to get you up the mountain: Try a ski tour walk without cable cars. Your reward? Pure nature and a descent away from the hustle and bustle. Other activities include pirouetting at one the nine ice rinks, racing down one of the 14 toboggan runs, brushing up on your skills at one of the two indoor golf courses or climbing and bouldering at one of the indoor halls. Hardcore climbers can chase their limits at any one of the numerous frozen waterfalls.

Zillertal’s other side

When you've had your fill of pistes and parties, explore the 460km of hiking trails which lead you across the glistening mountain landscape. Snowshoe hiking gives you an idea of what winter in the valley was like hundreds of years ago. Every step is accompanied by the crunching of the snow beneath your feet. Combine this with a ride on a romantic horse-drawn carriage for an idyllic day.
